I decided to make my own bass stand. Don't laugh. I may break down and buy a proper one, but for now it will do. Be nice lol. Here goes...

The foam box is from some speakers I have. The mat I bought at the dollar store:

I put this cardboard to make it even:

The little white spaces you see in the pics is gone I used a magic marker to darken it.
Playing some Diane Krall to see If I hear a difference and I do.

What if you made it out of a couple layers of MDF, some spikes, and covered it with Dynamat? Don't flame me, I know nothing of bass tables.

Nothing like a kluge to get the job done. Once I was sure my sub was a keeper, I just cut up the high density foam packing to the size of the bass plate. Still have .

It was just a fun project to do + I'm on a tight budget. I do hear a difference that is good to my ears.

Just curios, as I'm looking to build my own sub risers as well, how tall do they need to be? Is there a magic height or a calculated formula, or just "off the floor"?

There are plenty of DIYs on the web for these. I went with a Gramma because it is very well built, but I have other subs just sitting on packing foam too

No, there is no magic number. Half of it is just isolating it from the surface it is sitting on.

That's the standard Gramma. Was going to get the Great Gramma because it is wider, but this one worked fine.

Well I made another one...

Materials: Wood piece from a AV rack that broke apart. Sponges and 2 Carpet one black(to place under my BrokeMa after I'm done) and other light brown(On top of wood to kinda match the wood) for 4 bucks. She will be called BrokeMa.

I didn't have enough sponges to fill it up. I'm gonna try them without the sponges and see if I hear any difference before I buy more. If anything I'll have a nice supply of sponges. Advice and thoughts?

Anybody try putting a rug under bookshelf speakers? I have mine on stands with metal top and was wondering If it would improve it more?

Afterlife, with your sub platform, in order for it to be effective it needs to be "floating" on the foam or sponges. Your platform has wooden sides that set on the floor & the sponges are just inside a box with no bottom. To be honest, it really isn't giving you the decoupling that is needed to do the job correctly.

I recommend you remove the 4 sides from the platform & just glue 2 layers of sponges to the bottom of the wood. You can spray paint the sponges black to make them uniform. If you do this, the sub will be setting on a "squishy" deck which will isolate it & absorb the energy that creates vibrations throughout the room. I hope this tip helps you out!!
