where's the universal remote love?

Only thing I've got to work out is making the volume control work on every device. It's annoying to have switch on my BR, then switch back to the receiver to change the volume.

You shouldn't have to switch between devices to change volume. When you wen through the setup of each activity did it not ask you which device you use to change volume? If properly setup, it will automatically make the volume buttons control the receiver regardless of the activity you're in. Also, in the device settings you can choose "Turn this device off when not in use" which will do exactly that.

Your receiver may also have a volume trim for each input which would help with the difference in volume between devices.

These are all good points. I'll have to go back into the remote setup and try again. Any idea what this volume trim option might be called on an Onkyo receiver? Guess I'll have to go back and look over the manual again.

I got a URC R40 about a month ago to replace a 6 yr old Harmony that finally died.
It's much better build quality. You program it on the remote itself, I found it very easy. The built in codes got me 80% there, learning mode got me the rest of the way. I like that it's very easy to add things as you go along. I just keep the original remotes handy, if I find something that's missing, I can just add it in a minute, no need to hook up to a computer.
Macros are also easy to use, I like that you can edit them on the fly.

Harmony 300

I just spent the last few hours with my new Harmony 300 remote. Work, (HHGREGG) had them on clearance for $14.95.

I love it! I wish I would have spent a little more and got the 650, but for my needs, the 300 does everything I want. Very easy to set up. The drag and drop feature was a breeze.

I'm going to re read this thread, because I too am wanting to set the volume so I don't have to toggle between device buttons.

When you're going through the set up of your activities it'll ask you what device you want to control the volume for this activity. select your reciever and everything should work smoothly from there. They do take a little bit of set up to get working perfectly, but once you're there it's so intuitive to use you'll wonder why anyone would still be using 5-6 remotes.
