I got everything hooked up and this 'pocket sub' is being driven by Walter's Carver amp and it kicks @ss y'all. No kidding, it sounds pretty amazing. I gotta go get Rick some booze.

Don't forget to stop by your hair dresser and have her do your hair...it always looks better when they do it.

I think that amp can be bridged.

Maybe it can but my sub has L and R speaker level inputs so the 2 channel thing works well. I split my sub out with a Y connector and bam! The bandpass design works way better with a crossed signal. Don't get me wrong, it's still a cheesy little system but it sounds good. The amp is about the nicest piece. The EQ is hooked up and working in between my Denon DVD 2200 and my rec'r but I have it set flat at the moment. I'll toy with that later.

On an unrelated note Rick got the Canadian driver of the day award for taking a left and driving into oncoming traffic on the left side of the road on the wrong side of the median. I didn't do much better because I was going to follow him until my g/f started yelling her head off. In his defense he said he was only going one way. The RI Philharmonic was pretty cool but the best part was a couple of Festival Ballet Providence performances to various music. One of the ballerinas was probably of international caliber. The dude was okay too but kinda short.

Cut To The Chase

The joke was that the warrior guy was there to turn girls away at the door but right behind him you can see Walter's very serious Carver Model C-500 amp that powers the pocket sub/computer stand.

Cable Porn. I have these wood buttons all painted up for the telephone table but I never glued them in. Maybe it's time, huh?

... and then GO-NAD! cringed.

Instead of an equipment rack I bought a battery operated Makita compound miter slide saw.

There's Walter's EQ. It handles the signal from the DVD player to the HK AVR 430 which powers the Dayton BR-1 bookshelves.

The Pioneer SX-650 powers the Aperion Intimus 5DB surrounds which serve as computer speakers and it has phono inputs.

My rock collection is in those two plates on that shelf above the window. I got another rock today from Beaver Tail State Park. It'll sort of hold memories of going down there with Rick and Marie.

Saw lots of of cool electronics in Mantown and out in the living room.

Alex and Cheryl welcomed us into their home and really went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. They even served as tour guides Saturday and Sunday.

We had a great time!

We did too, Rick. Your visit here was our excuse to go out and do a few things we normally wouldn't do so we have you guys to thank for coming out (of the closet in your case).

No, really ... we thoroughly enjoyed hanging out with you guys. Goofing around with the gear was a treat for me. I told my neighbors that the bad man left and that sooner or later Money For Nothing would stop playing in their heads.

What's crazy is that Sunday morning the sub wouldn't play. Just now I pulled the fuses and RCA feed to check for continuity. Everything was good. I put the fuses back and reconnected the RCA feed ... and everything works! I found that setting the speakers to large, cranking the amp to 10 and turning the subwoofer gain to -8 blends the sub in very nicely. I'm going to throw my living room system out. Oh yeah, I might have mentioned that the living room system #1 EQ curve was set to the H/K rec'r which behaves a little differently than the THX Onkyo that's out there now. The tweaking continues ...

I really just gave it a once over with Goof Off. It is about the coolest looking thing I have going in here. I can't wait until one of my friends sees it. He's gonna have some serious jealousy issues because he's like in love with Bob Carver.

I ran the Rives disk and made some adjustments with the EQ. The EQ does need to be taken apart and sprayed down with fader lube/cleaner but I was still able to use it to cut some of the boominess out of the bass. It would have been nice to have done that before Rick got here but that's how it goes. What's cool is that with a flick of a switch I can go back and forth between EQ'ed and flat. The bit of boominess when it's being run flat would probably be favored by most but I like that the EQ brings a nice balance to the entire piece. I then bumped the gain on the sub to -5 ... for now. There's really no end to the tweaks for me. A week ago the speakers were behind me.

I got the little green buttons glued up too.

Since I was being encouraged in the pursuit of pyromania I got some heat shrink on that weird f-pin/RCA adapter/y-splitter combo I have there. Kind of makes it less of an eye hook. GO-NAD! is still cringing.

Maybe I should have posted this pic first but I'm embarrassed about losing my crack lighter a few years back and having to work with this candle lighting barbequer's wimp lighter.

I need some more coffee.

I saw that Makita box and forgot to ask about it; just figured you had tools in it.

The warrior guard at the door to Mantown had limited effectiveness.
When we tried ignoring calls to come to dinner; Cheryl came right in, grabbed Alex by the ear and marched us to the kitchen.

No can do on the wire. It's the slack I need for the sliding keyboard shelf.
However you might appreciate this attempt at decoupling.

The lower piece is probably a 1"x2" African Mahogany frame with the middle filled in with some sort of high density composite rubber that hockey players walk on on the way to the rink. The top is a White Birch cabinet door. The blue stuff is an actual acoustical product. I might dress up that edge but if you're in a position to be looking at those little holes and the blue latex foam ... that stuff is the last thing on your mind.
