I was just up in Indian Trail on Friday... If I were you I would be on the lookout for a CLR 3000 or a CLR 2500 instead of a CLR 2002, especially if you plan on going with the BP7004s. I use BP7006s in my bedroom paired with a CLR 2300 and it is awesome.

I had never even thought about the BP10s I have not having the newer tweeter, and this is after getting two pairs of them. But I use the other set in another room that is primarily used for music only, which I paired with a modified dayton sub-120.

i'm under some space constraints which is the reasoning for looking for a clr2002. i only have about 20" available in my entertainment center for a center channel so even the 2002 is too big, but i could remove the endcaps to make it work. also logistically, i don't have the available outlets for three additional powered subs across the front. i could swing two, but not three. i think the idea of a powered sub in the center channel is a great one, but the only powered def tech ctr that i could currently fit is the clr2300. and that would probably be a pretty big mis-match with the 4.5" mids vs the 6.5" in the bp10s...

I see... well you could always use a power strip to gain additional outlets, and the CLR2300 would probably be a mismatch for the BP10s, but if you were to get BP7004s then the mismatch wouldn't be too bad.

advice

Hi guys,

First post but have been lurking for a while. I need a little advice a new system I just purchased.

I've been looking around for about 4-5 months on creating a new theater setup. I had settled on a receiver and was bouncing around the idea of a few different lines of speakers. Well, I pulled the trigger last week on a large portion of the setup last week- I found a great deal on some bp7004's, a clr 2002 and a pioneer vsx-23 that I just couldn't pass up.

I am very happy with the 7004's. Although I haven't given the center much of a listen to because of out of town travel, I do want to make sure they are a good match for the 7004's before I get too far down the road. Would the 2300 be better, or something else?

Also, what would be the ideal matchup for rears with this system? Going 5.1 (or 5.0 in this case) for the time being, and maybe 7.x later. I'm not really worried about a seperate sub because the 7004's are doing just fine in that regard.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

The CLR2002 is perfect for the BP7004's. I had both before, integrated very well. Whats the rear of your room look like?? How far away is the wall from your sitting area.....a diagram would work well. Reason why I ask is because the for that setup the BP1.2x would be fine...unless you have the room for more BP7004 or BP10's.

Thanks for the reply, Pat.

Room dimensions will ultimately be 12X22 with the 'back' part of that actually opening up into another 'room' that is 18x22, ... hard to understand unless you can visualize a finished room over a 3 car garage with a hallway splitting the 2 areas in the middle of the left side. The 'cylindrical/long' part of that is where the setup is going. The sitting area can basically move forward or back from where the 7004's, 2002, and screen will be as needed, but basically about 10-12'. Hope that gives you some idea.

I also say ultimately because the setup is actually, for the time being, in the 'room' portion of that poorly written explanation above. Wife and I are in the compromise phase about that as we speak (currently using that long portion for a kids play area :/)

I have posted on here before bout surround set up and so for have been very pleased with the responces that i have gottn. I have kinda the same set up but i have the bp 7004, clr 2002, bpx, and a supercube 1, all of this is ran by my Pioneer Elite vsx 81. I was wondering how to get the most out of the speaker set up i have. I mainly use my system to watch movies but ever since i got the clr 2002 it seems like its not that loud as it was before i upgraded. Can someone please help me out to be able to get the best possible sound out of my set up for watching movis. Thanks in advance

You put your BP10s up for sale too? I see a pair for sale in Indian Trail on craigslist.

yeah, i need to take them off. i was really exploring all options, i really like the bp10s, but if i could flip them for more than i picked them up for then that would have given me more for the supertowers. now that i've bought the bp2004s for less than i thought i would find a pair, i'm going to keep the bp10s either in a two channel set up or back ups just in case the amps ever go out in the bp2004s...

I saw a pair of BP-6's on CL for only 125 near me. I would pick them up, but I just bought new speakers. Plus, it was 3 hours away which is kind of pushing it.

Def Techs

Hello there,

I have been reading alot on def techs and had went to a few places to listen to various speakers.
BP7000,BP7004, Various Focals and B&W 683.

The B&W 683 was by FAR the worst sounding speaker of the bunch. The Focals sounded better, where as the Def techs grabbed the focal sound.. made it sound better AND gave it an incredible soundstage. The speakers.. even the BP7004s went transparent to me. I was blown away.

I've always wanted a set of B&W's for years, I almost feel sick to my stomach because I will not be buying B&W's.

Why does everyone bash Def Techs? Are they a modern Bose 901? Ive heard the 901s before... They sound horrible!

I really need some reinforcement with these def techs.. I really dont understand why so many people like that 2d boring B&W sound! AcuDefTechGuy How do your BP7000s compare to your BP7001 rear channels? How do the BP7000s compare to other BP towers? Im gonna sample the 7000 again vs other BP's (7002,7004) and see if the price is worth the difference in sound.

I have alot of questions here.. but I joined up just to ask u guys these! Thanks in advance!

Docks, to answer some of your questions. Deftech has a huge following, but some "elitists" think that the only way to get great sound is to spend a huge amount of money and only higher end speakers will do. So they bash DT without giving them a proper listen. Also many showrooms don't have the proper "rooms" to demo DefTech and their bi-polar design. (either the rooms are treated with acoustic treatement along the whole wall that the speaker sits on, they have the speaker to close to the wall or the room is in a huge "best buy" area with nothing behind it and so the sound gets hindered.

So these elitists say that the speakers were crap when they heard them. It takes a while to get placement correct for bi-polars and no showroom is going to go through that. But when you get the DT home it will sound way better than what you heard in the showroom. The "sub" can be properly adjusted, speakers properly placed and when you mix in Audyysey (or others MCCACC, YPAO...) you get even better results.

As for the difference between the 7000 and the 7001, you just get better bass extension nothing else. The mid range and upper frequencies are the same. But use caution because most here feel that the built in subs in the 7*** series should not be used as typical subwoofers because they drop like a rock below 30Hz, so many set them to small and cross at 40hz, by doing this you get far tighter bass response and the bass doesnt become bloated. So factor in an outboard sub.

Deftech makes fabulous speakers, I had a A/V GTG a few weeks back and one of the attendees has a complete upper end Dynaudio setup and even he was surprised at how well my setup sounded and declared it very high end (especially for what I paid, which was far less than his Dynaudios)

Comparing the 7000 with the other BP line is not fair because the others can use different size mid range drivers which naturally will change the sound, also the sub drivers have different sizes and wattage but if I were you I would have the salesman set all the series to small crossed at 40hz and then demo with your ears and let them be the final judge.

celtic, like the 7000 series, try the Mythos ST as small and crossed at 40hz. I have thoroughly tested the STS and the STS speakers and felt set as large the bass was very muddy but set to small and crossed it had fantastic bass, since you already have the sub, you may find it best to use it this way. If you buy the ST's try it both ways (large and small) but listen very carefully for muddy bass.

Hi Folks;

New to this forum with question(s) in ref to Docks' post in #513 & MatthewB & AcuDefTechGuy replies...

I currently have BP7001sc for fronts with CLR 3000 center & STS Mythos for surrounds; given the option(s) would I benefit most from...

Rotating the 7001's out for 7000sc's or holding with the 7001's & adding an additional sub???
One of the primary interests in the BP-7 series was not needing an external sub but that seems to be indicated from time-to-time by various postings.

If in fact an external sub is the hook-up would I be best served by again;
staying with the 7001's (as the top end is the same as the 7000's) & adding either one Trinity or one (or perhaps two) SC Ref subs???
(already done multiple other brand option checks...thx)

(14x20 room with 8 to 14 cathedral)...
BP2X for side surrounds; BPX for front heights...
lots of amps...

I listen to about 50/50 music vs movies although I rarely have time for 'critical' listening anymore; on average I tend to listen about 5-7 on a 10 scale volume-wise. Ex-musician so music tastes are all over the map but gravitate toward bottom heavy oriented material...

TIA for any feedback...Randall987c
