I'll give your suggestions a try. Another question, if you please. My sub allows me to set the crossover point from 40Hz to 140Hz (at least I think it does). Currently, I have it set at 80Hz. Would it be better to have it set higher or lower?

Don't confuse crossover settings in receiver and directly on sub.
Then ever AH suggested to change/set cross-over frequency - it's ALWAYS referred to settings on the receiver itself.
Crossover on the sub should be perma-set on the highest setting.

Use x-over on the sub is ok only if your avr doesn't have bass management.

Thanks for the heads up, BoredSysAdmin. That is exactly what I was wondering. The crossover point on my receiver is set at 80Hz (that is why I thought I should match that with the setting on my sub). But you are recommending that I should set my sub at its max 140Hz, right?

Thats right. If you make em equal, they wont roll off the same and you are into a whole other bowl of wax.
