I am waiting to make sure the F113 arrived to the buyer in perfect shape first. He got it yesterday but said it's too big and heavy for him to get it downstairs so he has to wait until the weekend to get help. He said the box looks good so I am sure it's fine.

I insured it for 3k but if something happened to it, I would want to be able to give the guy back his money and fight UPS myself. I am just geared that way.
Sounds like it's time to pull the trigger... :D

Is there anyone near you that will let you audition the PB13U? You had some great quality sealed subs...will the SVS be satisfying with music at normal listening levels? I like my PB12Plus but I've never had a JL113 in my room...Is it a lateral move or is it a upgrade in volume and a down grade in SQ??? BTW I'm not saying it is but I'd want to know.

Just trying to make things harder on you.:p Just kidding.:)

From what I have read, it should have great sound quality, maybe equal to the F113 but will dig way lower.

I don't know anyone around me that has one. If it doesn't work out, I will sell it.

Not 100% sure I am getting it yet, I am still kicking around the Submersive but so far, the SVS is winning. I will start out with one and then add another in 2 months any way I end up going.

Don't forget about the variable tuning, and even sealed mode for different sound quality attributes. I've never heard a JL home audio sub, but I know the SVS sounds plenty good to me.

With that said, I still think a pair of them will be needed for your size room for moderately loud to loud playback levels.

I recommend that you run the PB13U in the 20 Hz tune, which will maximize output from 20-40 Hz, where you need it the most in that size room. I would not try the 15 Hz tune (which sacrifices a bit of output from 20-32 Hz in exchange for additional extension/output from 13-18 Hz) until you step-up to duals, and even with duals you might still prefer the muscular 20 Hz tune in such a large room.

I kinda figured that might be the case, but the ultra is still plenty strong in the 20 hz. region. I was playing test tones from REW one day and couldn't believe what that thing could do at such low frequencies... I couldn't hear a thing, but the windows were rattling pretty bad.

How big is your room?

So your space maybe as big as mine.

Here is what mine looks like so you can compare sizes and let me know. (crap...left that wide open for Alex)

From left speaker looking to back of room

From right speaker

From edge of couch

From behind couch into kitchen

Not sure exactly, but my living room opens up to the kitchen, dining room, stairway, basically the whole house.

I'll have to look when I get home, the pics are blocked by the firewall at work. I really do need to get some pics of my living room setup, I already posted my bedroom setup pics.

Hi PD,

Well, I do hope the Ultra makes you as happy as it did me. I've never heard a Fathom, so you have that to reference, but the Ultra can get the job done. It is a great sub woofer. And as you have seen, the Ultra out peforms the F113 as you go down in frequency. I think you'll prefer at least dual Ultras as Ed said, since your room is large.

I'm thinking dual stacks should work.

Yeah, like the woman that is carrying around your huevos in her purse is gunna let you get dual stacked.... :D

Congrats on the Ultra, they are nice subs.... Put out some good bass, how come you didn't just order a second right away - it would only be $1K more then the F113 and then you'd at least know if you were in the ball park...

Hummm...let's see...

In the last 2 months, I spent 6k on a ring, 6k on a honeymoon, 4k on furniture and I missed quota last month so I don't get a paycheck.

Oh yeah, I remember...I am out of money...

A single Piano Black Ultra will look great with all of you other gear and keep the new wife happy. Less $ than the Fathom and a little more oomph!

Good call.:)
