Here are the speakers in their behind the screen config. I don't mind the Center offset as the coax/compression driver is the middle speaker for the CC and the L&R's have the coax/cd in the upper position. This is a reasonable compromise until I finish the screen mounting.

Here is a photo of the screen that shows a bit of the fabric transparency.

Well, now you've really done it rmk. Thanks for the review and pics.

I think the worst financial decision I've ever made was to be addicted to this thread.

I want a Seymour now. I'd have to reduce screen size, which is fine by me, but I have a lot to gain with audio. I think it would be a major operation, however, at least by my standards. I'm even considering passing on the DTS10 deal to be able to something like this sooner. Hm.

WTG. Kick azz. Tits.

rmk, I'm at the linky you provided for mikey, and I don't see the 132" 16:9 under fixed frame. It is the largest they can make? If you happen to remember what it was for the 132", I would greatly appreciate a PM of the costs/shipping. Did you consider getting the black backing, and what if any considerations were there in this particular decision?

Thank you.

You need to look at the Fixed Screen products section. The make a 16:9 up to 183" diag.

The 115 is 131.9" diag, I got the 110 (126"). They will also do custom sizes. You should call Chris to discuss. Very helpful and a good guy.

The shipping to me in CA was $100. I didn't want the black backing due to the extra sound loss (especially HF) with another layer for sound to penetrate. I even removed the grills from the JTR's ;).

My backdrop is dark enough so that I don't need the backing anyway.

did you compare the picture quality already vs your previous screen?

also, how did you hang it? did it come with the necessary hardware to hang like that?

The image quality of the new screen is very good but with an AT screen there are tradeoffs. The image brightness is supposed to be reduced although I have not noticed this. The Stewart is by all accounts reference quality, so I'm very happy that the imge sooks as good as it does.
I have it hung from a couple of hooks in the ceiling. The screen comes with "french cleat" hanging system and/or Seymour will install eye hooks on the screen for hanging as I have.

I will be building a more permanent mounting that will be the screen width and attached to the ceiling but covered with black felt material. I will utilize the french cleat for the permanent mounting.

Seymour’s website has a nice mounting instruction document in PDF form.

Hey I'm buggin' you again. More questions:

The minimum distance desired from screen to wall is . . . 2 ft (and more is better)?

What was the minimum distance required from speaker to screen (and is more better)?

12 ft would be the minimum desired from screen to viewers?

Do you know how much more, or some % anything really, the black backing reduces sound transmission? (I remember you said it was particularly HF.)

I think this whole thing is pure awesomeness, but I am having serious second thoughts on the RS1 being able to light up 132/138 or bigger, without the gain. I assume my PJ is less bright than a RS35 as well, though can't recall exactly.

btw, I just received the 99 isopropyl, and I'll post when I get around to that!

These are designed to be hung on a wall and can be used with in-wall speakers so the wall to screen distance is from 0 to whatever. The speaker front baffle to screen recommendations I have read say 2-4" (more is not better).

The fabric texture disappears for most people at 9' from the screen. The distance beyond that should be dictated by preference. The middle seat of a commercial theater is approx .66 of the screen width. In my case, I am a little over that with a 110" width (13' viewing distance).

Seymour says that the black backing is very AT and has minimal effect on the levels <2db. I didn't want to chance it. If you have a light colored back wall or flashy speakers get it ;).

Your RS1 has better brightness than the RS2 and may be about the same lumens as the RS35. Now if we're talking CR ... forgetaboutit :D.

Bottom line, you can return the screen and you only risk the return shipping. Note: Chris has not had one returned and for good reason :).

So this means the plasma is getting permanently retired in the HT room?:p

Due to the frustration with HTPC’s inability to deal with the Bluray format not to mentioned HD audio, I decided to get one of the Sony auto changers (BDP-CX960). I bought the cheaper one (I could see no good reason to get the BDP-CX7000ES at over twice the price) and it really has been great. I jury rigged my home made Av cabinet to accommodate the large unit and loaded it with over 100 Blurays, DVD’s and some CD’s. There was a lot of criticism of the UI of the unit but I find it easy to navigate and very cool.

The biggest complication was having to add a wireless bridge to my HT closet so that the unit could access the Gracenote database for disk information and cover art. It took about 30 minutes to load the disks and another hour or so to find and load the disk info from Gracenote.Gracenote only missed 7 disks out of the over 100 loaded (400 is capicity) and that was no surprise as they were import or esoteric titles. The unit also noted the need for, then upgraded the firmware using this Web connection.

Overall I am very impressed with the BDP-960. I wish it could handle SACD (hello Sony ) and DVD-A formats but I still have the Oppo BDP-83 for those. Browsing my disk collection has been fun and I can waste a lot more time in the HT room now that all the disks are at my fingertips :p;).

Big and fugly, good thing it's in the closet.

I finished the mounting for the new Seymour AT screen. This includes the fabric covered plywood mounting panel as well as the Subwoofer grill covers. I am about 90% of the way to a false wall but done my way, everything is quickly removable/accessable. The under screen panels are actually custom subfoofer covers that are speaker grill cloth stretched over a 1"X2" frame. The are covering the Captivators now but I sized them for the larger Orbit Shifters that will be installed in June.

The Danley TH-Spud subs have been sold and the JTR Captivators are going as well. Basically, I am replacing my LCR’s and subs with the latest JTR Triple 12HT’s and a new powered (4Kw amp) Orbit Shifter horn based VLF subwoofer pair Jeff Permanian has designed. I am also installing a 26” Samsung LED/LCD for tweaking and music menu navigation purposes so I don’t have to power up the projector as frequently

There are a few other things I am doing but those are the main changes. Here is a photo of the new screen and almost false wall.

A very elegant front wall. I'm glad it's working out this well already.

It's just me, but if this awesome setup was mine, I'd start darkening everything, especially the floor is possible. I know if I jump to post #1 in this thread, that it was multi-purpose in nature, but dangit this is a veritable movie theater now!

JMO and vote. Get the most contrast out of that RS35, and even better would be to do some of that before Mr. Meier gets there.

Talk about back handed compliments :p;)

Of course you are right and the ideal contrast situation would be a Johnny Cash room (all black). While painting the doors, crown and base moldings is easy, replacing the carpet is a much bigger deal cost wise.

I'm sure I'll come around eventually. :)
