You must be joking me......
Even a formula 1 car doesn't do 0 - 60 in 2 secs.....
There's just enough pressure on tyres to accellerate that fast........
You need to redefine fast. Here's what 327mph in 4.42 secs looks like, that's 526 kilometers per hour.

You can compare it to a Veyron if that makes it easier. That makes 1000HP with 16 cylinders and 4 turbos. A Top Fuel car makes about 8000HP with a 499c.i. Blown 8 cylinder.

That is very true. Don't get me wrong I love cars in every way shape and form. I just happen to like drag racing the most, as does the actual owner of this car. Between the two of us we have done just about everything with cars from mild street cars to all out race cars. This just happens to be the current project, and I must say the best one. We are both beyond excited to get it finished up and running down the track.

I can only wish you good luck with what you do and.....
Lif is too short... not to have fun.... so have fun

I have another life... I abolutely love regatta sailing and that's my life... and we should choose what we enjoy....
Perhaps some people think that sailing is slow and boring..... but hell no it's not....

well.... So go out and win and tell us afterwards how much fun you had

Sailing is cool. My parents have some friends who race sail boats, and while they were racing in Chicago they stayed with them. Real nice guys who love a hobby as much as I do, just a different hobby.

And how can you make an engine last when it give sth like 40+ times the power / Cubic inch... compared to a normal engine?

Goals for this year are to get into the 9's, but tire roasting will happen. I like to do big burnouts.

Both of those tools have been utilzed in this build already, but not to crazy. No carbon doors, the factory fiberglass (minus the 8lb crash bar) is good enough.

Its a money "pit" but not a huge one. Its like any other hobby though, if your not into it you just dont get it.

Hmm, I'm curious. My background is in marine diesels, most of which use turbo-chargers. The ones I have direct experience with, utilized superchargers. So, I have some knowledge of the subject.

I would've thought that for drag racing purposes, a supercharger would be more suitable than a turbo, because of turbo lag. I can only assume that the one you are using must be relatively small, so that it'll spin up faster?

I know almost nothing about car turbos, so I have guess that turbo technology has developed to an extent that reduces/eliminates lag?

You need to understand that North American car culture has traditionally graded the speed of a car in a straight line, versus everywhere else in the world, where speed is considered a combination of straight line and over a road course.

Muscle cars of the '60's and early '70's could be fearsomely fast on a drag strip, but couldn't turn worth s***, or stop in an acceptable distance for that matter.

That mindset has changed somewhat over the last couple of decades, but drag racing is still big. Whether a car is "fast" or not, boils down to what the priority is - fast on a drag strip or fast on a road course.

Top fuel is probably the most amazing thing I have ever experienced in person  There is so much power that even from 15 feet away it vibrates your body when they accellerate. No other form of racing that I've been to has that same effect. I LOVE IT :D I am really more interested in the handling side to be honest, because I find it more fun, but just being in the presence of that kind of power is awe inspiring.

In automotive drag racing, turbos are catching up at an insane rate. They hold some records as it is now. But the technology is constantly evolving, and the turbos are getting bigger and better everyday almost. Turbo lag is really only present for inital spool up, but on the drag car you load the motor on the trans brake. So typical run for us will be to prestage, get on the foot brake to bring the revs up, creep into the stage light, hit the trans brake (engages reverse so then the trans is locked in first and reverse) which will also turn on the two step revlimiter so the turbo will spool to full boost almost instantly. When you let the button go, HOLD ON!!

Here is a good video of a turbo car :)

Well, heck. I guess I will post the last drag car I had. I got out of racing about 5 years ago. I missed it for a long time but I am over it now as long as I don't go to the races or watch it on TV.

Look closely and you can see my name on the window.

Just for reference, this car ran in an OutLaw Street class that required the car to be back-halved only and weigh 3,000lbs on a 10.5 tire. The class was 1/8 mile and this car ran 4.30's at ~167-170mph.

We ran it a few times in 1/4 mile and it ran upper 6's at close to 198 mph.

We also ran a 76 Vega in a small block class. It was the funnest car I have ever had. I will see if I can find some pictures. I don't think the front wheels ever touched the ground.

We also ran Pro Mod for a couple of years but didn't have the budget to do very good in that class. We had a nice car (Lumina) that ran deep in the 4's (1/8 mi) on motor but that wouldn't play in Pro Mod. We couldn't afford to run this one with power adders so it endep up in a Top Sportman class and then we sold it.

The Lumina felt like driving a Caddilac on cruise control.

The Camaro was more of a hand full but very drivable

The Vega felt like driving a cardboard box, on 2 wheels, at 150mpg, on black ice. It was fun.

6's? MAN that's got to be a blast.

Turbos the the way now... lag has basically been eliminated. Lots of guys running smaller turbos to spool them quicker, and then using by-pass valves to keep them spooled all the time. Then instead of having to spool the turbo, the gate just closes and boost is there. Plus traction is such a problem on the low end that a lot of times on the really big stuff you don't want it then. The blades are a lot better now too, more efficient, lighter, stronger, more stable.

Turbo lag was on its last leg when the brains/computers got so cheap.
