Help with angles/degrees

Here is my question.....how many degree pointing down does my rear speakers need to be? The reason I am asking, cuz this question is weighting on which speaker mounts to get...this is going to be the set up:

My seating height is 3.5' (C)
Distance from rear speakers 10' (A)
Rear speakers off floor 7' (B)



Like I said, I am trying to figure out how many degree pointing down my speakers need to be.

Seriously, I have no life.
The easy way to determine this is by subtracting the distance from the floor to your ears. The sin of the angle is determined by opposite side/adjacent, which is 3.5/10. If you have a calculator that does trigonometry functions, you would find this number, press arc-sin and it will give you the angle.

Or, you can use the calculator in your computer and click on 'Scientific' function. It's about 20°.

To me, the answer is going to be whatever sounds correct in your room which will require some experimentation. They should not be pointed directly at the listener, as you want the surrounds to be diffuse not direct.

It has been awhile, so double check me, but I believe sin = opposite/hypotenuse, and tan = opposite/adjacent. If this is right, the answer should be the inverse tangent or arc-tan of 0.35=19.3°
Admittedly, not much difference, in this case. However, if someone applied the same approach to another scenario, it could screw them up.

SOHCAHTOA was a Native American mathemetician whose specialty was trigonometry. At least, that's what we were taught.

Your formula is correct but I pressed the sin button, not the tan button. DOH!

Here are the pictures finally:

The back wall where the rear surrounds are going…you can see the speaker wire hanging down. I pulled wires for 6.1 and 7.1, just incase I don’t have my two rear surrounds by the time this is finished

Left side of front wall….the reason there is insulation is cuz the furnace is on the other side, and “trying” keep the sound down a lil


Right side of front wall…..there was a wall there, but decided it would be to “closed” if I didn’t open it up….to turned into a lil countertop. When I have poker games in the other room, everyone and talk without walking up to the “door”. I have it roughed in for a door, so when the time comes to sell I can throw up some studs, doors, and make it an extra bedroom
