I just found an unauthorized transaction on my creditcard from clickbank.com, so I just called my credit card company and am having that acct. closed and getting a new card issued. This won't stop me for ordering from monoprice.com, it could have happened to any site, plus that's the benefit of using your credit card... if there are unauthorized charges, I'm not liable for them.
When was the last time you placed an order with them Glocks?

On March 10 my credit card was hit up for about $150 on iTunes and Amazon. I ordered from Monoprice twice over the previous two weeks. Now I have to change all my automatic bill pays that I had set up on that credit card. That's the pain in the butt part that really annoys me. A warning email from Monoprice would have been nice since this has been so wide spread among their customers.

Update

Yup, my card info was stolen and used 3 times. I think I've ordered from monoprice 3-4 times using the same Paypal ATM/Debit Card.

My last purchase from them was on 2/24/10. The unathorized charges were just made on the 8th and 9th; about $90 total. They were all for online dating sites! :D

And not suprisingly, they all had a "Foreign Transaction Fee" included with them...
Well, all my unauthorized charges were reversed, plus a pleasant bonus; two of them were reversed twice! So now I'm +$65. Hope Paypal doesn't notice... *cross fingers*

Well, at least we all know what Adam and his brother have been up to. If anybody sees random amazon charges for dog toys, edible undies, or veggie corndogs, its confirmed.

"3/25/2010 8:49PM PT - SYSTEM UPDATE: We rebuilt our network using new hardware and software. We reviewed all web application source code and all databases to ensure there are no security holes. Our network security is professionally managed. We have deployed an improved firewall. We're performing vulnerability scans using service provided by two vendors, Trustwave and McAfee Secure.

We process credit card payments in real-time without storing any card data on our servers. We began accepting credit card payments on our website only after completing these steps.

Additionally, we've contracted with an Approved Scanning Vendor, AccuData, which is assisting us complete the formal steps to become a certified Level 1 PCI DSS merchant. AccuData staff told us the certification process may take several weeks. Thank you so much for your continuous support."

Anybody placed an order lately?

So, Monoprice was offline for a while and now has a somewhat cryptic message on their website of:
You're probably wondering why they can't take orders online for another week or two...

Well, from comments on their facebook page it seems like they were hacked and people are reporting fraudulent charges on their credit / debit cards if they ordered from Monoprice in the past two weeks.
Maybe Monster is using guerilla warfare tactics. With all the profit that Monster Cable makes they obviously would be able to afford to pay some hackers to ruin a perfectly good and innocent reasonably priced cable sales operation.

Did they confirm anything about the "suspicious files" from previous updates?

That's wonderful isn't it? They probably used it to buy Dyson Vacuums to sell to pawn shops for a quick $400-500. It's sad what people will do for money these days, they are a big part of the problem.

Our company card was hit for $1 for the Apple store, and then 5 minutes later we were hit for $1200 for the College Sports Network.
Not sure how the college Sports Network is worth $1200, but they didn't get a dime from us.

I need to order a few items, but was hesitant. I may go ahead - but keep a close eye on my CC account.

I finally got my fradulent credit reversed and have my new card. It was a minor hassle, but not enough to keep me from shopping at Monoprice again, afterall that's why credit card companies offer protection.

I got nailed recently, and hadn't ordered from them in a very long time... so not sure it's related, but seems odd. For me, they used the card numbers in different states and the CC company caught it and denied each attempt. I now have a new card #...

Information Regarding Apparent Theft of Credit Card Information from Monoprice
(Last updated: March 31, 2010 8:20PM PT)

In early March 2010, we received reports from customers that credit card accounts they used to make purchases through our website had later been used to make fraudulent purchases from other vendors. When we received these reports, we took our website offline and promptly examined our computer network to determine if there were any indications that we had been hacked. We hired computer forensic investigators to help us. We identified suspicious files on one of our web-facing servers and asked the investigators to focus on those files. The investigators determined that thieves had penetrated that server. They determined that the thieves had probably intercepted and copied credit card data as we processed transactions.

Working with the investigators, we have preliminarily determined that thieves may have copied approximately 28,500 sets of card information from customers who shopped on the Monoprice website from February 23 through March 5, 2010. The thieves may also have copied about 6,500 additional sets of card data regarding orders customers canceled after they gave us their card information. We provided the card numbers of the potentially affected accounts to our credit card processor, who will provide the card numbers to the credit card associations. We understand the card associations will notify the banks or other financial institutions that issued the cards about the potentially compromised accounts and the financial institutions will determine what actions to take regarding the accounts.

We hired Kroll Fraud Solutions to send letters to each of the potentially affected customers about the apparent theft. Kroll will offer its ID TheftSmart™ fraud prevention services to those customers at our expense. If your credit card information may have been stolen by the thieves, you will receive a letter from Kroll within approximately one week to 10 days.

Before we put our website back online, we rebuilt our website using new hardware and software and strengthened the security measures we use to safeguard the credit card information. We are continuing to work with a security consultant to ensure that we are taking the appropriate steps to safeguard credit card information.

We truly apologize for any inconvenience and concern the apparent theft of credit card information from Monoprice has caused our customers.

Truly yours,

Jong S. Lee / CEO
