Sorry to hear the news, but like others have said it could hopefully all work out very well in the long run.

At least things seem to be picking up, so it should hopefully not be as tough a time to find a job. We are not recovered yet, but signs point to better days ahead. Sorry to hear it man, but things will work out.

It isn't a temp agency thing, it is a lot of resources to help you find a job, and there's a TON of good stuff on there. They send out a regular email that has excellent job hunting advice about interviews, cover letters, resumes, everything really. I don't go to the site, I just read the emails (still) and though I know quite a bit of this stuff, I learned a lot from them as well.

I appreciate all the comments. I was a software engineer, but I've got a lot of different avenues so I'm praying and working hard to get things rolling. I've already got some references. My goal has been to be a pastor and that's why I started going to seminary. Software is a nice job, but it's just not me. I'm prefer a more people oriented task. Will see what happens, but my wife does make decent money as a teacher so we should be better off than most folks. We'd been saving for a down payment on a house so it's nice to have that cash to help us while we slim down.

I'm relieved to hear you have some cushion. Perhaps if you can, it's time to throw yourself full force into your true passion. You're a smart guy with a good head on your shoulders... that I know. There's always a need and room for a good people. Take care.

Greg is looking for a plumber ...

a pool builder ...
a painter ...
a furniture builder ...
a floor finisher ...
a fence builder ...
a sub builder ...

You're gonna have to diversify but that guy will pay for your kid's dental work. ;)

The last thing I painted was a disaster lol.

I don't know about building a sub the size of Greg's on my balcony. Small sealed can be done up here, but large ported is a whole other story.

Sorry to hear the news. Things are tough out there. My company recently gave us our salaries back after handing us all a 10% paycut for the last year or so. We still don't have any of our bonus programs reinstated yet.

Since you're going to seminary, maybe you could get a job with the Cowboys doing the pre-game prayer. Lord knows Romo could use the help. :)

You think you're kidding but I have this guy named Gustavo that does all the odds and ends around here. I found him one day when we were giving away some junk on Craig's List. He came buy to pick up the junk and I asked him what he did for a living. He does Masonry work but said business was slow. I asked him what all he was good at and he said about everything. I have called him a million times to do various things for us and he is always on time and does a great job. He is even a little too honest. Last time he did work for me he quoted that the job would be $150. I paid him when he was done and he drove off. About 30 minutes later he came back and knocked on my door and said he wanted to give me $50 back because he thought he charged me too much. You don't see that every day.

I feel for you man. I find out this week whether or not my job is safe for next year. Most likely I will be ok, but most of the people who I consider friends at work will likely be gone.

Keep your head up and follow your dream. Sometimes things happen for a reason. Look at this as an opportinity rather than a setback.

I signed up for that, and got calls every single day to my cell phone about "education opportunities" and it was annoying, they'd call once at 3am, then again at 10am, then again at 2pm, it was like clockwork. I could time my day off it.

I actually went through a temp agency for work, and it was terrible. I feel your pain OP.

Sorry to hear about this brother, but have patience and faith for good things can come from this. When I lost my job I was angry and in shock then I realized that losing my job gave me the chance to spend more time with my wife and daughter.
