i haven't been hanging around here much ... i got a life outside this forum you know! (so i hung around some photography forums) :D

anyway, the photog hobby takes way more wallet-juice than the AV hobby!


my Canon 300D back from repair with a new lease on life


Canon 500D (T1i) with EF-S 17-85 lens to replace the 300D (Digital Rebel)


new camera (Canon 5DmkII) and lenses i bought to replace the Canon 500D [the one i bought to replace the previously dead Canon 300D]

lol, up to the point i got the 5D, i've been using the auto mode :eek:

so i'm super green in terms of photgraphy, local photogs say that it's not with the "bow" but the "indian" shooting ... well i just thought that this indian better have a bazooka :)

it's fun though to be able to use the 35 and 50mm primes on full frame, because on crop cams, you get an almost telephoto effect - which is useless for close quarters.

i've been concentrating on people portraits so i don't think the people i've taken photos of would appreciate their pics being seen by strangers :D

1st photo above was taken with the 5D with 50mm 1.8 ... 2nd photo by a Nikon D90 with an 18-200 lens ... third photo by a Panasonic LX3 :)

The 18-200 is a meh lens. Way to soft.

Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8 (FX)
Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8 (DX) - bought with body

The 17-55mm is an excellent lens but it cannot match the 14-24mm in terms of sharpness. Besides, eventually I intend on changing to a full frame (FX) body so the 17-55mm is effectively living on borrowed time at present. The 14-24mm is a keeper.

The 200mm f/2 is an absolute beast of a lens. It's ultra expensive and weighs a ton. However, the sharpness (and everything else for that matter) of this lens is simply breathtaking. This lens is also a keeper. I also have the 1.4x telecovertor for this lens.

All I really need now, in terms of lenses, is a standard zoom. I had considered the 24-70mm f/2.8 but it's not quite as close to perfect as the 14-24mm and 200mm are in their respective focal length range. Therefore, I've decided to wait until something better comes along. The good news is that I'm not in any rush and so can easily afford to wait. :)

I suggest you add some fast primes to that line up. AF-S 50mm F1.4G is stunningly sharp on both DX and FX.

Might be waiting a while. Looks like that zooom range is well covered. You could try a higher end Sigma, but generally the Nikkor glass is better.

I don't have too much yet because I just started... I never really realized how many different lenses there are.

I've just started to scratch the surface of manual shooting, there's a lot to learn.

This is your lens. Pay attention to the MTF plots. The Bluer, the sharper.
