Seriously, I have no life.
A couple of weeks ago my close friend Dr Phil Marin, my wife and I cooked Paella, the national dish of Spain. We used the correct Spanish Bomba rice grown at altitude. We did the prep cooking in the main kitchen and did the actual cooking outside.

Here are some of the pictures: -

Surgeons at work deveining shrimp! I'm in the center, with my wife Denise, who is a cardiology NP, to my left is Dr Philip Marin, the retired nephrologist of our critical care team. He is also the proud owner of a set of B & W 800Ds with Mac power.

The finished creation.

A meal enjoyed with friends. Dr Allan Miranda, a former resident and later colleague on our team. Now chief of cardiac anesthesia at Fairview University Medical Center Minneapolis. His wife Lori, a nurse anesthetist and two of his three children.

A time to relax and catch up on events.

It was a great weekend and a lot of fun. The next day our fifth grandchild and fourth grandson was born. The first child for my son Andrew and wife Jill. We all headed to the Twin Cities the next day to meet Isaac Carter.

Congrats on the new addition to the family.

Re: the paella crew- no hospital admin? How can you make something like that without people stepping in to tell you how to do things and get in the way?

Leaving the interference industry in the rear view mirror, is the best part of retirement.

Restaurants?

Are we allowed to recommend restaurants here? :)

If any of you chemical food people make it to the Chicagoland area, check out Heaven on Seven. I've been to the Naperville location a few times, and yes, the walls do look like those on the home page.

It's always interesting to see what people look like. I'd never have guessed you shaved your head down the middle.

the food and baby look cute. Congrats. I've only got 5 days till I'm hitched. Hard to believe it's so close.

Well, it is hatch chile season. Anyone taking part in the fun?

I picked up 5lbs of fresh hatch chiles today, roasted them then blended with some chicken broth then I seared a few lbs of pork butt. Saute some yellow onion, garlic and cumin then bring it all together and simmer until thick. Chili verde, spicy, packed full of flavor. Simply put, it is delicious.

Well, I'll save the posts for here at harvest time. Should have a nice big pile of bhut jolokia peppers to show off.

I'm going to give some away, but most of the peppers I'll keep. Some of the peppers will be for some homemade hot sauce, but most will be dried. Been thinking about getting a bottle of Kettle One and making some serious pepper infused vodka.

I love hot stuff, but I'd be afraid to try one of those.
I have to look for the You Tube of the guy eating one of those. He was curled up in a ball for hours and wanted to go to the hospital.
My brother makes a really good sauce with Habaneros, and I always eat very hot Thai food. I don't know about the bhut.
I'm scared and want my mommy.:D

Bhuts are really good. I think flavor-wise they are pretty comparable to habaneros but twice as hot. I usually use one in a recipe but later read the label and they were recommending 1/4 to 1/2 a pepper in a recipe. I like heat but more than one starts to approach obnoxiously hot.

I remember trying a whole habanero by itself once. I was pretty uncomfortable for the better part of an hour.

I went to New Mexico a few weeks back and wanted to buy some hatch chiles but I could not find none. That's some good green chili too.
