Right To Bear Arms?

Will Sotomayor be another nail in the coffin for gun ownership?

I would have to say, "YES".

What get's my goat about her, and IMHO should exclude her, is her self professed desire to dictate policy and law from the Bench. That is a No-No in any book. The SCJ, and anyone involved in litigation should be reminded they are there to fight the good fight within the confines of the law. They are not there to create it.

The government knows full well the lessons learned from their past. Prohibition showed that trying to take away something many people want, and while it may seem like a good idea, the fight wasn’t worth it. Try to take away arms from people who feel entitled to them - no, I don’t think they’ll be that foolish. They don’t want to be responsible for the deaths on both sides and the long reaching repercussions such a battle would bring.

An unarmed populace is a passive populace...just the way that most governments like it. The founding fathers, those early heroes in our country, placed the freedom of speech as the principle gift of their Revolutionary lives. Next they framed the best means of guaranteeing and protecting that first freedom...with the freedom to bear arms.

You're right Dave, but in the coffin potentially lies more of our freedoms than just the Second Amendment.

Man, my hitting-the-bricks-'60's-revolutionary itches are startin' to need scratchin' again....even at my age, lol. The ode to William Wallace in my sig has been playing on my mind. ;)

That woman is so detached from reality. I want to walk right up to her and slap her across the face and say, "ma'am, your life is eminant danger, would you like a gun to defend yourself or do you think that the criminal threatening your life will kindly lay down his arms and allow you to 'repel' them with but your own physical might?"

Politicians severely irratate me. He could have cornered her and completely destroyed her, instead he gave her outs. She was in deep without an answer that supported her cause and he let her off the hook. I personally would have beat her to a pulp with the amunition he was using.

This issue is all relevant to who is looking at it and from what angle. After all, the supreme court does that all the time, every time they make a ruling of some sort. Each president is a new law and policy, from the highest bench, right?
As soon as anyone interprets the law after the author, it is a new dictate, new policy, new law. And, again, humans will have their own angle to look at it. Impossible to be impartial, or why do we have 9 on the top branch? One should do, no?

Well, the fathers should have spelled it out much better, not left it up to wondering what they really meant or what it does mean after 200 years. If individuals have an inalieable right to arms, why even bring in the word 'militia?'And, perhaps spell out the limits of kinds of arms? But that could not have been possible then, although they could have said no cannons.

Yeah, the fathers could never have dreamed that their progeny would be such idiots as to obfuscate the meaning of a simple English sentence. ;)

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

I guess they made it more confusing by talking about "free States", too. :)

When any of you have to live in a ghetto where the majority of the guns held by dealers and gang members are bought from "good upstanding citizens" from Virginia and West Virginia who have the right to "bear arms", talk to me about gun rights please. Till then, hold accountable those good upstanding citizens who have the right to bear arms but do NOT have the right to sell them without proper background checks or licensing, because THEY are the ones making this "right to bear arms" for all you "good upstanding citizens" such a hot topic.

Oh, and in case anyone didn't get the memo that week, VA Tech wa shot up by a kid who went through a very lax background check. Columbine was shot up by a bunch of kids whose parents had the right to bear arms. Guns don't kill people, irresponsible stupid people who exercise their "right to bear arms" kill people.

The forefathers didn't have 300M+ people to consider. Or hate messages that could be transmitted at the speed of electrical currents thanks to the internet. Or YouTube to inspire an entire generation of morons who like to watch snuff videos.

Forefathers... yeah, all men are created equal. Men, and they meant it literally, did not include women, blacks, or Native Americans. So yeah, keep quoting the hypocrites and let's live by their words AND their example. Let's repeal women's right to vote and the right of non-whites to be in the company of whites when not serving them.

Yeah, it's not those drugged up, badass, gang-bangin' ghetto trash that kill people. It's the law abiding citizens in VA that kill people...

An armed society is a polite society. ;)

Yeah, it's them, getting their guns from people who have the right to hunt deer with AR15s (as if that's necessary or makes sense). We put drug addicts AND their dealers in jail. We jail the murders who illegally possess and use the guns, but we don't touch the dealers who illegally sold them? Logic is lost when it comes to our "rights" apparently. As Nino Brown said in New Jack City, "Ain't no uzis made in Harlem. Not one of us in here owns a poppy field."

Nope. But they sure keep the makers of uzis and the growers of poppies in tall clover, don't they?! ;) I wonder how many books can be bought at a used book store in Harlem for the price of a few hits of crack or coke or an uzi. (Are there any bookstores in Harlem? :()

Did you ever cut yourself shaving? (Is there a razor manufacturing plant in your neighborhood?) Did you sue that evil razor manufacturer?

I wish Sotomayor's Anti-Second Amendment stance was her only problem.

She ruled against white firefighters that pasted a promotion exam, because no minorities pasted the test.
She ruled it was OK to throw out the entire test.

If you thought Sotomayor's stances on racial issues lacked common sense and smacked or racism, you should get a gander at the Supreme Court nominee's apparent hostility to property rights. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/jun/05/sotomayors-bias-against-private-property/

This women is a train wreck, but guess what...
She will be appointed to the Supreme Court, for the same reason she was considered in the first place.
Sadly, because she's a women, and she's Hispanic.
Case closed end of story.
