We rented and watched Valkyrie on Sunday night and despite my not particularly liking TC, I really liked this film. I felt the DTS HDMA was one of the better sound tracks I have heard lately. The anti-aircraft fire that starts the North Africa battle scene was startling as were most of the war action sequences. We had the system cranked and the sound tracks dynamics are over the top good.

I was familiar with the story and felt the film did a reasonable job in terms of historical accuracy. I did not get around to watching the bonus material but I hear that the included documentary is very good and so I may have to purchase this one and give it a look.

Overall I liked the film, but there were some things that would have made it better. First off, dump Tom. He’s a smug, arrogant prick, and it comes through in every role he’s in. It fit his character in Collateral Damage, but not here.

Also, if you’re going to do a movie about Germans, find people who can do a proper German accent! We had American, British, Scottish & German all mixed together. I can’t believe it’s that hard to find good actors who can do a good accent.

The soundtrack did make my cat jump during the air attack. :D

I seen this one in the theatres last December and thought it well done. Cruise even looked like the count.

Because Nazi's weren't smug, arrogant pricks??? Ya know, just sayin'...;)

I'm glad to hear that the story is historically accurate. I hate going to see a movie based on true events and finding out that the director just made up a bunch of crap.

What I got from his character was that he wasn’t your typical Nazi. He was very much against what Hitler stood for, and that’s why he wanted him dead, so in the future, historians would not refer to that time period as being “Hitler’s Germany”.

Also, in the extra features, there was a bit about the director wanting to shoot the scene where the main conspirators are executed on the spot where it actually happened. They had to jump through a lot of hoops to get permission, and on the night of the shoot, they took a moment of silence to commemorate those who stood up to Hitler. TC spoke for everyone, and he wasn’t at all swayed by the significance of the site. Instead, he was his usual arrogant self, and came off sounding really smug. He’s got a very big head, and if his appearance on the Oprah show was any indication, he’s a complete nut job to boot.

I thought it was a great show! I can say nothing about the historical accuracy or lack thereof, unfortunately.

This doesn't bug me too much. Hey, they're speaking English. :D Would you prefer if the movie was in German? I might . . . dunno.

I'm not a big Tom Cruise fan but I really enjoyed this movie and it was very inspiring to see how many Germans despised Hitler at that time.

so it's like letters from Iwo Jima ...

kinda feels boring to watch a story where you KNOW they will fail :D
knowing they will succeed is another thing though.

BR, right now it's saying it's a "very long wait". I put it to the top of my queue but it and "Taken" were skipped over.
Taken is good enough go ahead and rent rather than wait.;)

Valkyrie is in the mailbox as I type, mail man just dropped off. Taken is pretty good, we watched it twice. He is very efficient in what he does. :)

I saw the movie in theaters (I hardly ever go, I just happened to get dragged along to this one).. I don't like tom cruise either, but I truly enjoyed this film. Knowing the outcome didn't really bother me, in fact, I think it made me enjoy it more :D
