sub for XQ30

i'm getting XQ30 and a matched center will be soon enough, so i think i should be looking for my sub to complete my system.

i will be listening to classical music and movies 50/50 but i give priority to musical sound and i can't have a ground breaking base sound that would shake the whole apartment build. (people in this building are very nice)

my budget will be sth around $1000, less would be great. i'm all ears

DIY is typically the best, but if you want commercial subs. I like Velodyne for musical subs. I do suggest you get some sort of eq system. A DCX2496 would be ideal for controlling the lower frequencies which can shake apartments.

this is an apartment. basically, i will be using the system in my living room. i'm not sure how this work cuz the area i will be listening to is not that big, but there is no wall so i guess i have to calculate the space of the whole living room, which is 20'x7.5'x7.5'. If you mean the whole open connected area, it will over 2500 cu.ft

I own one of these little bastards, and it rattles the walls in my 2 channel room (12' X 12' X 8'). I never thought a 12" driver could sound this thick. If you have a smaller room this would b more than enough, unless you're looking to pressurize to crazy SPLs IMO.

The Logan doesn't cut it for HT. What is budget. If your not looking at ID companies which brands do you have access to?

i'm in Vancouver BC. i have access to REL, MartinLogan, Velodyne, JL audio and local companies and maybe more. For ID companies, i dont mind buying subs from them as long as the shipping and taxes doesn't add up too much. i hate it when the customs call asking me to go to the airport get my package and pay the taxes.

I'm not sure about the CDN prices but if the import and shipping is to much I'd also look at svs, hsu, and epik. Eq ing the sub for your listening position will help.

i'm reading a lot of reviews for those companies. it's hard to say which is the one for me cuz all of them get great reviews, but that's fine i still need to wait for center and my budget anyway.

btw, about eq'ing my speakers and subs, how's that work? is there any article regarding using it and setting it up? please let me know. i just wanna make sure that my system is able to have eq system.

Some avrs do a good job with eq which one did you get? I think reading the articles from AH regarding room treatments will also be good idea.

i have denon avr-788, which has audyssey EQ.

i will definitely read about room treatments cuz i've been thinking about what i should do for the listening area

bass traps for your layout should improve the listening experience. I use REW in conjuction with an eq like this , or a "plug and play solution like this that many would prefer.
