Sorry about the bad news, I hope all turns out well.

I'm gonna make a shameless product plug... :D

For your outdoor kitchen, you should check out a product called Shirestone. Its seamless, doesnt have to be re-sealed, and is very durable. Its fantastic for exterior tops and accessories. We've got a couple great dealers in your area.

Greg I'm sorry to hear about your mother in law. Prayers are with you and your family. I hope they figure everything out quick.

On the pool I really like the design but if you and the contractor are not getting on now and you have not even started yet I think you need to look around.

Please keep us posted.

Well it's a little too early to celebrate but it looks like there was not a stroke. If you guys remember, she had Cardiac bypass surgery 2 years ago and has been on statins since then. Looks like this may have caused peripheral neuropathy. They have taken her off the drug and she can now walk and is gaining strength quickly. The damage in the brain, that they thought was a stroke, (when they did the CAT scan)was not present once they did an MRI. More test today and tomorrow and then she will likely get to go home.

She gets to go home tonight. Looks like everything is ok for now.

4 pool guys have come out so far, 2 more tomorrow. I still don't know for sure what I am going to do. I have about decided to skip the hot tub and I can't decide if this year is a good year to build the pool or if I should wait one more year.

The cost looks to be in the low 30's for pool only and low 40's for pool and hot tub. Seems like a lot of money for a hot tub. We are also running into a problem of no natural gas in our area and no good way to place a giant propane tank.

You don't get natural gas service in your area? I'd think that would be illegal in Texas. :)

BTW, it's great news that your mother-in-law gets to go home tonight and that everything looks okay.

Well, I will sign a contract this week. I narrowed the 6 pool builders down to two and I am doing final negotiations with them today. It has been a lot more difficult then I predicted getting these guys down on price (I am usually good at getting a deal). I was thinking the economy would play in my favor but all the pool builders are doing great right now in this area. They are even being selective on who they will build for.

We decided not to go with the hot tub. Below is what I think is our final design.

Wow Greg that is going to be amazing. Guess I may have to visit Texas now.:D

Are you going to have the stone fence done as well? I have not seen full shots of your existing backyard but I didn't think you had that type of fence now.

What is the overall width of that just so I have some scale?

Very cool!

Make sure where the waterfalls are that they make a sharp lip. The waterfalls need a sharp lip (no leading edge) because otherwise the water tends to follow the stone and it makes the waterfall uneven. If the lip is sharp the water flows out smoothly and clean looking.

If you still want a hottub, I'd put a small one on that square area closest to me from the artists rendering... you could have it slightly raised and have the overflow flow into the pool. It creates a pretty cool effect.

Also, where are they putting the drains?

How are you going to light it (important!!!!)?

Also, bring the stone all the way around the pool. The grass will die in that area where the pool is next to the grass. Or do some pebbles/small stones with landscaping there, with some tough plants. Grass will die though.

Come on down.

I have that stone fence in the back, my side fences are wood and the HOA will not let me change them.

Not sure if you can see this attachment very well but it is roughly 32'x17'. Perimeter is ~110 ft and that and the materials is what has the cost up too high. We are using limestone coping, granite tile and stamped concrete decking.

Missed this earlier. We had no natural gas in our area, but my neighbor and I wanted to have generators. We got another neighbor in on it also. We all split the cost to run the gas. Expensive, but, we all agree it was worth it. All of us have natural gas generators, and natural gas is the most reliable fuel source in south florida because its underground, so in the hurricanes its great.

Just an idea if your friendly with your neighbors.
