The 110 is still front firing. Yes, they upgraded the amp, but it is still more or less the same design in a new box.
A larger port won't make any difference to this sub. The port is sized for the tuning of the cabinet, which actually looks like it must be in the low 40s (!!) as the -3dB is 38Hz. That is quite high for a "sub". That means when you play anything that has sound below that tuning point, it is likely to struggle to reproduce the sound and that can come across as distortion (not port noise). The lower the lows that you send it, the more it will struggle.
I had a PSW202 that I got free with some LSi7s I bought and as long as it wasn't pushed too hard, it was OK. It had to be calibrated conservatively, because it was easy to overdrive. The larger amp will likely help, but the tuning will still be an issue.
