I believe that the 110 is the newer version of the PSW10 is it not??? If not they are darn close and not worth your money. If you want to get a decent sub on a tight budget, look at the sub kits at part-express....the entry fee will be $320 but will be much better than the polk without a doubt...

If you want to upgrade and stay with Polk, then look at the DSW series subs, like Pro 400 or Pro 600 (http://www.polkaudio.com/homeaudio/dsw/).

Personally, I have owned Polk speakers for a long time and like their speakers, but I have never been impressed with Polk subs.

Yes, they are basically the same sub so it would be a ZERO upgrade.
What I suspected to be the case. I have not heard any of the new polk subs but know that even at the prices of some of the new Polks you can buy / build a sub that will kill it. However, in your budget you have two options--going with something from parts express which I mentioned. That will still be a minimum of $320, which is $120 more than the $200 Polk....or you just wait till you have a larger budget for a sub, and that is probably your best bet if your looking for a sub that starts to break into the 'decent performance' category....

thats the prob need to get at bb because my buddy got it with his bb card. the psw110 is 100w rms vs psw10 at 50w rms, and downfiring port instead of on front baffel. wondering if that would be worth $50. ill do it if i wont hear port noise as bad, cause ive NEVER heard port noise this bad in my life and ive heard lots. if i had money i would deff get something diff. saving money now for new fronts cause my 15 year old paradigm titans are toast.

I would think to get the amount of port noise you say you are getting, that you are clearly pushing this sub way beyond what it wants to do comfortably--the 110 has the same performance capability, and as such, there not much reason to even put the $50 in. I would say put that towards a new sub and mains.....IMO

not what i wanted to hear but thanks, since i need to take my avr back i'm gonna listen to the 110 and see how it sounds. i really dont think i'm pushing the sub to far,sub itself sounds clean, volume is at lil more than half, and avr is just over half, seems like it needs a much larger port area to reduce turbulance. one reason slot ports sonud better. thanks all

Why are you taking the receiver back? If it's also from Best Buy, then perhaps you could use the credit from the sub to upgrade the receiver if you wanted a more expensive model.

The 110 is still front firing. Yes, they upgraded the amp, but it is still more or less the same design in a new box.

A larger port won't make any difference to this sub. The port is sized for the tuning of the cabinet, which actually looks like it must be in the low 40s (!!) as the -3dB is 38Hz. That is quite high for a "sub". That means when you play anything that has sound below that tuning point, it is likely to struggle to reproduce the sound and that can come across as distortion (not port noise). The lower the lows that you send it, the more it will struggle.

I had a PSW202 that I got free with some LSi7s I bought and as long as it wasn't pushed too hard, it was OK. It had to be calibrated conservatively, because it was easy to overdrive. The larger amp will likely help, but the tuning will still be an issue.
