OK, time to get all philosophical. I know, I know…but bear with me, just trying to get a feel for what people think.

Ok, Here’s the scenario. A couple of stories start popping up on the internet about 2 astronomers who have spotted a chunk of rock zooming through the solar system. Not a big deal, but remember the last one? It missed us by a matter of only 46,000 miles. And that was after it passed us by. Keep in mind - they only know about less than 1% of what’s coming near us.
After a few days, more astronomers from different observatories confirm the rock is there. A few more days pass and now we get an idea of size - an asteroid 25 miles across. They’re still not worried, because no one is even trying to project a trajectory. Then a couple of college students plug the data into their schools computer program and make a chilling discovery - they predict the asteroid is heading toward us. All telescopes are now trained on the rock, calculations are made and it’s confirmed - this thing has the Earth in its crosshairs. Quickly the trajectory and date is calculated - somewhere in Europe or Asia, and only a month away. No time to even think about trying to deflect or destroy the asteroid.

Predictions are made about the devastation. Forget about the economic down turn, wars & terrorists. Not thousands, or even millions - but billions dead. Little if any vegetation left. A cloud of dense dust encircling the planet. Some optimists think that some people could survive by being far under ground on the opposite side of the planet (sorry to our friends over seas - not picking on you, just most of our members are from the US). There are no guarantees of survival, and even if you made it through the initial blast, no one knows what kind of world would be waiting for you.

So, there it is. The impact is going to happen and nothing is going to stop it.
The question is - would you try everything you could to “save” yourself and your family, or would you accept your fate and let things play out by just staying where you are?

Well I would most likely turn into a stockpiling mofo and I would start digging a deep hole and line it with cement get 78 generators to run my speakers 40 ft underground.....Then I would furnish it and get a couple of 18 year old hotties 3 pallets of beer enough food to last 4 years and some kind of automated toilet......of course I would do some other stuff and things......:D

Maybe if you cranked up just the right frequency through your array of subs you could pulverise the asteroid just like a kidney stone.:D

Endless Hookers and Margaritas, I'm going out with a smile on my face. Then 20 minutes before the impact, I'm gonna light a Bob Marley sized joint (havent smoked in 20 years mind you) and then put on some great music while sitting on the roof of my house, with a joint in one hand, giant margarita (with salt) in the other looking at the top of some bimbo's head while I'm singing "My Way" by Frank Sinatra.

Now that may just be me, but figure why not? GF may be pissed but screw it, we'll both be dead for me to hear her complainng. :D

1) Quit ALL forms of work
2) Drive to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan
3) Live in the Porcupine mountains until either I
a) die
b) survive

And let it be! :D :p

Option A: I'd try to get part of the asteroid named after me (too bad it's not a comet) and see if I could get Leelee Sobieski to be my girlfriend.

Option B: I'd try to get on one of the international titanium shuttles with some of the best deep drillers on the planet. The training alone would be worth it. After all, Watts is hot.

Quite frankly I would rather not know...

But if I did I would (after the initial panic wore off) just wait quietly.

Like I am waiting for your response to your own catastrophe.

I would do everything I could think of to engineer solutions to prevent catastrophe and preserve life. I would also hope them college kids did some bad math.:)

Personally, I would try and help stop it. But as a species, we should be pouring money into science to get colonies off this ball of dirt. One asteroid and we're done for.

there are far bigger dangers than asteroids. It's called us.

we are more likely to blow ourselves up than have an asteroid hit us. Look at what we've done to the climate.

True, but lets remember two things. We didn't blow ourselves up with the advent of nuclear weapons when we were most likely to do so. And anything we do will likely not destroy all life on the planet, at least not yet. I guess I'm an optimist :)

Correction: We didn't blow ourselves up with the advent of nuclear weapons _yet_...

Nuclear war would wipe out everything... radiation poisoning and nuclear winter - hurray!

It would be terrible, but there would be survivors. An asteroid, nothing would survive.

Well, technically... asteroids and meteors hit the earth every day...

Nuclear war... you don't see that every day :p

I think our main concern, however, is neither asteroids or nukes...

Seriously -- Aliens.
