What you're really asking is should I feel guilty to be an American. I've noticed that those who complain the most about Americans over consuming live just as well if not better than I. Any one able to participate in this forum is already way above average economically. As a veteran I've paid for the right to waste my money on whatever I want. It's not my fault that a large percentage of the globe lives in or close to poverty. The poor conditions in those places are almost always a direct result of mismanagement, bribery and theft by their own governments.
That said, I'm now going to listen to music on my ESL's which need to consume electricity to operate. I'm even going to play some vinyl. Is that reactionary enough for you? I have no feelings of guilt now. I don't expect to feel any in the future.

I remember when I was shopping for my gear(1997).I got to know the owner of a little high end audio store in my town and I bet i would spend 3 or 4 hours in that store just listening to music. Then we would tear everything apart change all of the interconnectes or a amp to see if we could tell a diffirence.I've played drums all my life so you can tune your ears and listen.
Ahh...I remember the honeymoon stage of the habit! I think my all-weekend tweaking marathon days are over, but it's still an adrenaline rush to get a new piece of gear. When that doesn't feel exciting anymore it's time to hang it up.

That's not what I'm asking at all. Go back and re-read my original post. I said I don't feel guilty, just wondered if anyone else does. Also, I'm in no way above average economically, that's why I said I suffer for my indulgences.

What difference does it make that you are a veteran? That doesn't give you any more rights than any other American, moral or otherwise. And it probably is your fault that a large percentage of the globe lives in or close to poverty, you reactionary pig.

So there's high end audio gear for boats? Any of the familiar brands or is it all boat industry specific?
Was refering to home audio. And might have to sell the boat to finish the addition to the house.

I should have been more specific. I knew you didn't feel guilty and was agreeing with you.
If being proud of having served my country makes me a reactionary pig then so be it. It's pigs like me that make it so that jerks like you are able to speak like you do. If you don't think you're better of economically I urge you to travel to a third world country as that was where my economic referrence was about.
I don't care if you live in a trailer. You still live better than 75% of the world. If pointing that out to you makes me a reactionary pig. What are you who doesn't acknowledge it.
If you think serving in the US Military is the reason a large percentage of the globe is in poverty you are sadly misinformed. I might a reactionary pig but you are an ignorant, arrogant knownothing. When you jump to conclusions you should have your reasons together.

I feel bad because I look into old receipts and bank statements and realize how much I've spent compared to how much I don't have.

Wow. It is statements like these that make me wonder how people like you think. I mean have you seen or heard anything that goes on outside of your line of sight? Have you ever been to another country outside of the US?

Also you apparently do now know how the rank structure of the military works. Its not like your job (if you have one). You can't just say "oh I don't really feel like doing what my boss says today". As a soldier you also have no input whatsoever as to where you are stationed, what the military is ordered to do there, and how those orders are carried out. These days most of the orders come down from politicians who for the most part have their heads up their a$$es.

You might want to be a little more careful on who you insult on this forum as there are quite a few active and retired US military members here. I would suggest next time you keep your comments to yourself.

How rude:rolleyes:

For me, it seems that you're jealous of most of the people over here.
Were you expecting to hear someone admit to feeling guilty so you could feel better? That kind of feeling: "He's rich, but at least he's unhappy"?

I feel lucky with the material possessions I have. I don't feel guilty.
When I come here and see some setups that I'll probably never be able to afford I feel glad that someone is able to enjoy and share it with us.
The same way when I see a Ferrari on the street. Glad that someone is able to have one (or more).

So you really were allowed to run around with a loaded weapon? That's supposed to make me feel safer? I do get a thrill out of knowing you put your *** on the line for jerks like me. I would thank you except that I don't feel we've been in a justified military action since WWII. If that sticks in your craw, then build a bridge and get over it. I didn't say you were a reactionary pig because you served in the military. You are a reactionary pig because of your lack of introspection, conscience and obvious lack of basic reading skills. I spent a year in India, is that third world enough for ya? A perceptive reader would have realized my comment about you being responsible for a large part of the world living in poverty was not serious, just trying to match your statement with "irony." Look it up.

So you really...[blah blah blah]
I was thinking of criticizing you for derailing this thread...but it's your own thread, so I guess this is what you want.

I dislike a lot of US foreign policy and military action. Dislike it a lot. But calling someone a "reactionary pig" simply because they're a veteran, to make a point about audio spending habits? W...T...F?

Apologize for your manners and lets move on.

No apology needed because I never said that. You need to read more carefully as well. What do you mean by "derailing this thread?" The thread was started precisely for this kind of reader reaction...I asked for ideas, and I'm getting them.

Seriously, I have no life.
Guilty, nothing. That's downright criminal and a blatant bannable offense right there! :D
Not for a die-hard boater. Sure, they complain about it but if the choice it between going boating and most other things, boating it is.

A lot of the same brands. JL makes some killer speakers, amps and subs specifically for marine use.
