Custom Power Cords - Comments / Ideas / Suggestions

i have access to a local custom cord maker - colors galore.
41 bucks a piece.

i can't decide which color. blue or red or maroon or brown

i can't decide if i should go different colors for each unit or each kind of unit, or mono-color for everything.

thoughts?

Will you be upgrading the house wiring or the receptacle(s) used for the system? How much less are these if they don't do the useless cosmetic stuff? If the amp can't use more than it needs, how will this make an audible difference? You would have a better result by running a new circuit to the system with heavier wire. The effect of the better cable is directly proportional to the length and a short power cord won't make a night & day difference unless you want it to and/or know when it has been subbed for the original cord.

Go nuts. Unless the power wiring isn't adequate or has problems, I still don't see a way for this to make that much difference. The new cord may have more strands, but when you're sending 60Hz through it, that doesn't matter. If it handles more current, that doesn't matter if the amp will NEVER draw so much that the original one would be considered inadequate. You can't force current through a device. They can't sell their product if the supplied cord isn't capable of supplying what the device needs.

I guess if you went with a different color for each unit, it would make it easy to find what cord went where.

To be completely honest, I do like that shade of red a lot.

Exactly my thoughts.

I'm happy to soon have more "color-coding" distinction soon myself. I have on the way in the mail some speaker wire, interconnects, and HDMI cable. Several of my interconnects look identical (a pain when diagnosing an issue recently) which I'm replacing all with color coded tech flexed BJC, all of my speaker wires are the same (not anymore with BJC white coming for the front three), and now each of my HDMI cables will look different.

Anyways, long story short, color coding definitely when given the choice.

I vote for colors like maroon, purple, brown, choices that are not extremely common with other cable brands (like black, white, blue . . .).

Why not just buy some mesh cable covering and heat shrink tubing? That would be a lot less than $41/cord and it'll look just as good. I'm not sure the plugs will fit most power management devices, unless they have regular receptacles, either.

For cable ID, I like black labels with white or yellow lettering. They don't show up as a gaudy white or yellow label on a dark cord, but the contrast is good enough to be seen pretty well in low light. If they end up being moved often, clear heat shrink tubing goes over the label.

I agree, special power cables will not make one iota of a difference. The companies who design this gear, designed it with a power cable that will properly feed the proper electricity to the unit. A special cable will not alter the sound or correct power fluctuations what so ever. That 41.00 would be better well spent buying room acoustics than wasting it on a colored cord that nobody will notice.

Yeah, the stock cord that came with it. Look, I do like the red cords.
Would I drop a couple three hundred bucks to make my cords pretty?

oh, here's one more thing to help with the heart attack:

i'm also planning to get a power conditioner ... lol.

sucks that the APC deals on the AH store is only 110v. and APC doesn't have 220v versions in the Philippines
