Hey Tomorrow, its been years since I've followed NCAA ball. Does the Pac-10 still feel like they are not represented enough, when considering the strength of their conference?

I think some coaches some years ago were campaigning for more air time and coverage. A lot of pro scouts living on the east coast would already be asleep by the time PAC-10 games were playing, and they thought that some of their players were not represented and/or acclaimed as they should be.

BTW, are there still some Ducks in the NBA? I know that Ridnour (Sonics?) and Fred something-or-other (Pacers) were at least very recently. Haven't kept up. The other Luke didn't make the NBA, did he? (I forget all their names! Excuse me). Thanks.

Hey jostenmeat! Thanks for asking. Are you from the west coast or Pac-10 school?

Yes, there is (and it seems forever has been) an attitude out here that there is an east coast bias, stemming primarily from people not seeing, or the media not reporting games that are played late in the Pacific time zone. I agree with the notion that there is a bias.

In football, as an example, out of the couple hundred Heisman voters, there are about a dozen from the west coast. (How else can you explain only a couple of players out the many greats from the Pac-10 winning the Heisman?! That's pretty nuts.) Basketball has much the same problems. Even in baseball...Oregon State has been picked WAY in the back of the pack but won the CWS 2 out of the last 3 years. But the major sports schedules are changing and we're seeing more competition between the east and west schools, now. So hopefully there will be a more authentic representation with the media and various poll voters.

For the ex-Ducks, Aaron Brooks is going to be a star with the Houston Rockets. Fred Jones and Luke Jackson are the players you were thinking of. They were both in the league the last time I looked. I wonder about Jackson though. He was a late cut from the Trail Blazers team this year. I'm not sure, but I think at least one of the draftees from last year's Oregon team is also in the league...Malik Hairston. Also, a former player, Coach Ernie Kent's son, Jordon, was drafted in football of all things. Last time I looked he was a flanker for the Seattle Seahawks.

I really never followed NCAA roundball until I moved to Oregon. Now I can't get enough of it. It's a wonderful game. I guess having the Blazers as the only pro team in the state (other than second level soccer) turned me into a fan.

Thanks much for your thoughts. :)

I live in CA, and I got my Masters in music at USC/Thornton. However, I'm not really a trojan fan, nor a fan of any particular school. However, I root for PAC-10 teams vs others.

I had a harmony class with the amazing Morten Lauridsen (recipient of the National Medal of Arts from President Bush), who taught there for decades, educating many greats like Jascha Heifetz and his entire class. He grew up in Oregon, and he'd really root for the Ducks. Hah! I can't remember if he would root for them over USC as well, but I think he just might have. ;)

Yeah, basketball has always been my fav. I can't tell you how happy I was when the NBA allowed for zone defense, as well as being a bit more strict about travelling and carrying-over. Very smart move, IMO.

'Baby Ducks' refers to my statement that there are 8 freshmen on the Oregon team. In case you don't know, the Oregon mascot is a duck. I'm sorry you took my joking to heart, Swerd, as I meant no insults. As I said, NC has a GREAT team this year.
No, I didn't take it as an insult :D. If I had been serious, I would have delivered a short lecture on the various stories behind the Tarheel nickname. Besides, how can you insult any other team nickname or mascot when your own team are called the Ducks ;). The only Pac 10 team I harbor any ill feelings towards is UCLA. I still resent how they dominated bball back in 60s and 70s.

Now go get some turkey and mashed taters and go relax with a good game. ;)
I certainly did :D. My brother smoked a turkey! It was excellent. It had been brined overnight in a salt/spice/orange/ginger mix and then smoked over cherry and pecan wood for 3 or 4 hours. Yum... I'll get him to post the recipe. Also had mashed taters, sweet taters, green beens, apple pie and pumkin pie... resulting in severe (but not terminal) belly bloat :p.

I thought mebbe you were pullin' my Duck chain. :p Somehow it still sounds better than our arch-rivals, the Beavers. :D :D :D

I'm also a bit jealous of your dinner, as we had...............quiche. :( Quiche! Quiche for Thanksgiving! Gah.................... Next my wife will have me speaking French. :(

Well, my Cats won the Maui tournament by beating W. Virginia! Go Cats! ;);) I also notice that Louisville got beat by Western Kentucky.........LOL!!!!! :p:p Gonzaga also beat TN. Man, do they ever look great. Anyways, feel free to add your team's success. One thing, KY really needs to improve upon is reducing turnovers. Good Lord it is almost ridiculous!:rolleyes:

Cheers,

Phil

Holy crap-Western KY beat Georgia too! Geez, I am glad UK does not have to play them. Maybe Western KY is for real. Heck, they have also beat Louisville which is ranked 3rd in the nation. Pretty impressive if you ask me. ;);)

Cheers,

Phil

Guys, just watched the game between W. Virginia and Davidson. For most of the game it seemed more like a tennis match. Davidson's Stephen Curry was not having his best game. However, in the last few minutes once again Curry lit it up. This was a great game. Kudos to Curry! Really like watching him play. ;);)

Cheers,

Phil

College BBall in in the house!!!

Hey guys I feel your excitement for this season! Hopefully it will prove to be as good as last season's tourney. There were some really good games, I just hope we see a Davidson run in the tourney. Look at me its December and I'm already talkin about March haha I am currently in London studying in college but I'm comin home next week I'm so pumped to get back into the US sports mix. I'm a Pac-10 guy so hopefully the Bruins can actually pull something together this year for real. They never could close a game last year when it mattered. But we'll see how well they do without Kevin Love.

Hi there and welcome to the forum. Studying in London would have to be awesome. Do you like it over there? Like you, I love college bball. Davidson does look very good. They should make a good run in the tournament come March. However, you better keep your eye on the Tarheels because I think this is their year. Who knows as anything can happen. Personally, I am a Wildcat fan. Go big Blue! ;);)

Cheers,

Phil

Yo Phil I definitely feel you on the TarHeel hype. There is no reason they shouldn't come home with it all this year but they should have closed last year in my opinion but they didn't Like you said anything can happen. Studying in London is awesome. I had a couple chances to walk into the hifi stores and really listen to some nice equipment. I wish I could afford a nice pair of B&W haha there stuff is just downright mean. I saw some people comparing some bose and jbl and some nice B&W bookshelfs and I just looked at these people like "What are you thinking??? BOSE???" haha it was just sad.

By the way Phil how do you like the Panny BD35? I've heard good reviews but reviews are just that usually haha

Thanks,
Andrew

Hello again Andrew. I bet being in London is really cool.:cool: Do you find the material more difficult???? I bet you really have to study a bunch. Yes, B&W makes awesome speakers. Would love to own some myself. Perhaps, one day I will when I hit the lottery. :p:p

So far, I really like my Panny BD35. No complaints here. Great sound with a great picture. Just puts a big smile on my face. BTW, if you don't mind can you post some pics of the scenery there in London? I bet everything there is expensive too. Am, I correct on that?

Cheers,

Phil

PS Don't worry, N. Carolina will be standing tall when all is said and done. ;);)

Yea I've been over in London since september it was mad expensive cause the exchange rate was 2.0 so i was paying double for everything already in one of the most expensive cities in the entire world haha but now the exchange is around 1.4 or 5 so its not near as bad. Its still weird seeing people enjoy beer at 8am with breakfast but hey thats the culture. The material is actually a joke to me. You can basically study whatever you want as long as it relates to the topic of the course. I can see why the US doesn't recognize alot of foreign degrees now. But you can pretty much just BS your way through anything haha

Ya I don't mind posting some pics at all. I don't know how though. I'm brand new to the cite. Literally been on here 2 days running haha If you could give me a crash course I can get some pics up by some time next week. I'm leaving for stateside Monday so I'll be a bit busy.

Andrew, I think you have to have so many posts before you can post pics. I am sure others here that can help you with that. Sorry to hear the academics are not up to par so to speak. My guess is that it would have been tougher. Anyways, when you can as well have the time please post some pics of the scenery. BTW, I plan to drink a cold one with my Cheerios in the morning!:eek:

My KY Wildcats play Indiana tomorrow. This should be a good game. Too bad, I have to work. :(:( Was really looking forward to watching this one. Also, Western KY is playing University of Evansville tomorrow night in Evansville. Almost tempted to go watch the game as it is not too far from where I work. Western has really been on a roll as of late. Beating Louisville like they did was very impressive. Then, Western turned right around and beat Georgia.:eek: This is one team that is way under-rated imho.

Cheers,

Phil

I caught part of the Kentucky-Indiana game on tv today. Those Wildcats, particularly Stevenson, looked pretty good! Congrats on the Hoosier trouncing, Phil.

Thanks a bunch. But, I would not call it a trouncing. Both teams looked very sloppy. Neither seemed to hit shots with any kind of consistency whatsoever. It was sad imho. If KY is going to make a run in the tournament come March, they had better get their $hit together. The turnovers are killing KY and may end up being the main reason they don't even make the tournament. I have seen them do better and it is time to gert the lead out of their a$$es and get with the program.

To my surprise, University of Evansville beat Western KY! Are you kidding me?:eek: Holy freaking crap!!!!!!! Way to go UE. They absolutely demolished WKU. Woot woot........mmmmm...........uhhhh huh........they bad they bad!:cool:

LOL, yeah, de be bad.

I have to agree about the sloppy play of both teams...especially Indiana. Kentucky has too much maturity for those kind of frosh turnovers and mistakes. (They looked a bit like my Ducks with their 8 freshmen! :() Speaking of which...Oregon slaps around Kansas State in one game and then gets beaten by San Diego in the next? Consistency...we need it...would be nice if these guys treated each possession like it's precious...cuz it is.
