Were you playing the subs when th ebrownout occurred? If not, I cannot imagine why this would happen to you. And if you did, it should have blown any internal fusing it has?
No I was not even using the HT system. The subs were switched to auto.

i don't think so.

and if you don't know what you are doing, don't.

it might be holding the board to the plate.

In the meantime Im trying to arrange a dedicate 30amp line
If you are going to go to the trouble of installing a new circuit, which I think is a good idea, I would recommend a dedicated 20amp circuit for each sub.

it happens. im actually trying to decide if i want to have the same kind of problem or not :D those are some mean subs :D have you ever posted pics?

agreed with zumbo. at 220v (iirc oz is 220) a 20A circuit is much better suited for HT use. (using two 20A would be great too)

Just going to take a wild stab in the dark here, but if those subs have onboard fuses, have you checked them to see if they were blown? Whenever I am troubleshooting an electrical device problem I always check if it has fuses and if they are functional.

I know you said brownout which would mean that wouldn't overvolt the fuses but a surprise 5 dollar fix beats your alternative.

Just trying to help. I feel your pain friend. I'd be pretty down too...

hopefully it is the fuses but being that they are sealed it voids your warranty if you touch them. So hopefully this can be sorted. Thanks btw.

Just to give an update it was the fuses. The sound engineer who originally worked on calibrating my unit came and changed the fuses. He was sent JL audio which was good to see. I got a first glimpse to see inside the unit and wow I take it back saying the poor build, mate it looks impressive. The centre nut holds the torrodial transfomers which is huge but what impressed me the most was the size of the magnet of the sub. He also said it's one in a million that this happened but im still going to do the 30A dedicated line.

I also like to say thankyou to all who responded and tried to help, it just shows what a good forum this is. Some forums it's like writing a message in a bottle you can only hope to get a response, but thanks again.

Actually was my first preference but was told by the salesman that it's an overkill for my room. Even two fathoms are but it's easier to get a flatter bass response.

I am glad to see it was just the fuses, that's great.

See, that wasn't so bad, was it ;)

Seriously, I have no life.

Would there be a possibility of a surge signal when you were not home, and it just blew the amp?

Best to try and call the JL:eek:

The room has a 32A dedicated line with a commercial plate with a Furman SPR 16 Ei. The Denon AVP A1HD and POA A1HD and the 2 Fathoms are plugged into this unit. So hopefully no more trouble.

Commercial industrial plug

16A Caradas plug which plug to the back of the AVP and the Furman

10A Caradas for the AVP

I wanted to share a video I made of the power on capacitor issue & repair. I know this is an old thread but this is likely what you were dealing with. Some of you experienced different problems, more related to the actual main amplifier caps going out… but this is a step by step video of the power on cap issue and repair, when your JL Audio Fathom is not coming on all together. Hope this helps some of you out there.
