So because they did not have enough current through the powewr conditioner there fried?
I may be wrong here, but I know from my car audio days that amps can fail due to a shortage of current.

I would imagine that JL will have you use an authorized repair shop instead of shipping them off.

These things always seem to happen on weekends, don’t they. OK Frank, take a breath. Assuming you haven’t already heard from your Dealer how about back to basics.

Power off (front switch) and remove the power cords from the Fathoms. Switch the Master Slave switch on each unit Slave becomes Master. Check the grounding switch to make sure it isn’t between positions. Now connect the Fathoms so that the Slave unit is now the Master and vice-versa. Reconnect the power cord but go directly to the wall outlet, not the Power Conditioner. Try to power up just the Master sub (used to be the Slave) first. If you get lights, use the demo button on the new Master sub. If no lights and they are still dead, I’m afraid you are in for repair or replacement.
Power spikes can damage any electronics.
I retried again but nothing. I can't believe how 2 just went. one you would think oh yeah, but 2. Oh well i have to get this sorted. Thankyou.

You might want to take something like a functional table lamp and test your outlets to be sure you have power to them. It is not inconceivable that a circuit with several outlets might have been damaged. Doing that would make sure the problem is in the subwoofer.

Unfortunaley these Subs have not been in Australia for very long and especially in Perth. I think there is only myself and someone else that own these in our city. i hope they can in an in houce call as I really don't want to take it to them if it's just a fuse.

Can anyone recommend what type of Online UPS 1500VA or 2000VA. Im going to get one regardless, so if when they get fixed they will be repaired.

I've already plugged them in different power outlets(Which have things working on them) through out the house. It's the Subs. Well it looks like im the first. I guess its a wake up call to get an online UPS for these things.

With a UPS, you still have the issue of the sub not being connected directly.
But with an online UPS because its a manufactured 240volts by the battery and it runs by the battery 24/7 you will never have to experince the effects of a brownout, blackout etc. I have one for my Denon AVP and JVC projector and works really well. You don't even know you have a brownout/blackout because it keeps constant power.

I just had my LCD repaired due to a power spike, but was concerned about the direct connection being interrupted with a UPS. Is there a specific model you would recommend?

What I'm still curious about is if there are internal fuses or circuit breakers in those subs. Maybe I missed it, but I haven't seen an answer to that, yet.

Does anyone know?

Sorry to hear that you had some electricity problems that put your fathoms down buddy... that sucks... I'll guarantee that JL has internal fuses and that will be the problem. Hang tight, as they are new and under warranty they will need to be serviced by your dealer.

If those were my subs, I would have that amp out and seeing if I could snap a fuse in there, but I certainly understand the feeling about spending what you did on them, not wanting to breach the warranty...

It'll all be good.... I feel your pain...

i agree that it just might be a fuse somewhere, but only the fathom owners here will know if its user serviceable from the back or the dealer might need to open the plate amp.

re: UPS, you're gonna need a seriously megabuck UPS that handles mega-thousand watts of power to match the fathoms.

re: power conditioners DON'T improve SQ.

re: Automatic Voltage Regulator - not as expensive as the power conditioner - we use something like that over here and i live in an industrial zone with a million brownouts every year. all my subs have survived those as long as they were plugged into the AVR's. only time i had a fuse fry was when i plugged directly to the wall and there was a power fluctuation. so i had to open the plate amp of my Velodyne CHT-15R (but i asked permission from the dealer)

Well not over here in OZ it aint.
well here in pembroke pines fl, it is and since thats where they are located:rolleyes: What I was trying to say is that if the subs failed and its JLs fault and they are under warranty, they are good, if its not JLs fault then...

Seriously, I have no life.
I need help, does anyone know if there is someway of getting these subs to power on. They were left on Auto today and suddenly we experienced a quick brownout.I've tried different power points nothing. I went to the HT to make sure everything is working and guess what everything works but not the 2 JL audio Fathoms 112.I can't beleive this that 2 subs are know not working. I never had this problem with my focal subs but know this has become a problem. Is there any tips guys to get this going? These subs cost me $11000AUS and I feel very upset and mad that these subs were mean'tt to be of the highest quality and know they don't work.
Were you playing the subs when th ebrownout occurred? If not, I cannot imagine why this would happen to you. And if you did, it should have blown any internal fusing it has?

problem is guys over here in Australia is there sort of a new product. There is no service agent for them and the guys who have them only know so much. Where i live is on the other side of the country 4hr difference so sending two is a pain.

I've been on the phone and luckily there sending someone they have talk to to change the fuses. In the meantime Im trying to arrange a dedicate 30amp line which will have a furman spr 16EI plugged into it.

Just curious can the fuse be changed via that centre screw?
