No I haven't ordered them yet... and Im just plotting out the rest of my summer here financially speaking... to see whether or not I will jump on it or just wait until this winter... I have to say It does sound and feel great in this room already, so maybe I should just chill before I go to far overboard here...

Hey don't forget there babel.. I do have that extra ADP-590 laying around if your interested in doing a 6.1 and using that as a single rear... you could save some money on the speaks there... adding that single ADP to the rear of my setup sounds really great...

so you ended up getting the ADPs? Where did you put it? I never saw any pics? when did you pull the trigger on that one? Did you get them from audiogon or a dealer? that might be a good idea. :) (do they come only in pairs?)

I bought the ADP's off Audiogon for a great price... he wouldn't split them up.

I couldn't get the guy to come down any more, but I did get a great price.
He said they were used in a demo house, Im not sure they were ever even hooked up... They are perfect and work great...

I ended up putting the single ADP behind the big tree... opposite the plasma behind the couches. You can't really even see it, its on a speaker stand for now until my buddy brings me a corner bracket along with my new Pronto remote. http://www.pronto.philips.com/index.cfm?id=1303 It really sounds fantastic when there is a lot of rear channel stuff going on.. It matrixes the sound between the surrounds. I was worried about the ADP in the corner, but it seriously worked out superb. Now I need to run more wires through the wall for that speaker, the second sub and another cat6 or cat 5 for the Networked Pronto.

After that I think Im done with buying $chtuff for a while... I have way to many other things to get done, and I keep spending money on that system.:D

how well does Auto Eq work? Do most of you use the manual option? And what exactly is stacking? Sorry for the questions guys just want know as much as I can before i receive it. Oh one more thing I had my subs calibrated by a JL audio sound engineer who said it was in perfect position and the pahse is perfect. Can I use my auto eq with those settings?

Thanks Guys in advance

Hey Frank.... I caught some of your discussion on your Fathoms over at AVS.

If you haven't already read this.... Outlaw makes a great manual for the SMS-1, http://pdf.outlawaudio.com/outlaw/docs/sms1guide.pdf which will be a great tool for you to get familiar with the unit... Everything is spelled out to a T in that manual, even Stacking, which is where you put 2 or more sliders very close together which will increase/decrease the amount of EQ that you will use in a smaller Freq range ... Read the manual quick, you will see...

Once you get it setup, you will see how incredibly easy it is to use, its almost stupid really how simple it is... Its fun to play with for the first day or so, but honestly once you get it set ya just leave it alone.

I will never use the auto setup on the SMS, it just plain didn't correct all the issues as good as you can manually. Also, make sure that when you get it, to check the firmware, to make sure you have to latest. Very Important....

If you have any questions, please feel free to come back and ask, or even at the JL thread, everyone is familiar with the unit, I honestly doubt you will have any problems getting it working immediately,

So simple, even a Caveman can do it..... :D

Thankyou mate, very much appreciated I will have a look. i want to read up so when I get it i can jump in and begin working with it. I was going to ask would you leave my settings that the engineer has left on my subs?

Thanks again

i dont think anybody uses the autoEQ.

stacking is using two "sliders" / EQ's on the same frequency.

Do you have the Fathoms tied together with 1 master, 1 slave...?

I would leave the subs calibrated the way they are, and just tie them into the SMS-1 and run the Calibration and see where it lies just the way it is now...

Get a Digital camera and snap off some pics of the first response, you can post them here if you like... then start tweaking from there... The nice thing about the SMS is you can make changes on the fly as its sampling the room, like adjust the phase on one sub and see what it does to the onscreen response, and then put it back and see how it looks again... very very simple and cool.

I was told by the JL Audio sound Engineer to run them both master as the Denon AVP can assign its sub outs all to LFE. But in this case I might have to run master and slave. If I run in that config does the phase become disabled in the slave?

No The Phase will remain individual on each sub... Don't worry about the phase. Its a simple knob to turn and you can watch the results onscreen with the SMS-1 as you turn them.

Where are your subs located in the room?

I am surprised that he wouldn't set them up as master slave, they you just run the ARO 1 time which will EQ the 2 subs together, instead of individually. Was he just the installer or was that from JL Audio themselves? Ultimately, with as easy as it is with the ARO and the SMS, you will find it to be very easy to re-run them a dozen times to test and figure out what the best settings will be for you....

To Tie your 2 Fathoms together you just need a cable with XLR ends, and set the switches to Master and Slave. Any Guitar store should have those cables.
If you get 2 of those cables, you can run 1 from the SMS to the master F112, and the second to the Slave. Then hook up the mic to the Master F112 and run the ARO program. Once that is done, then fire up the SMS-1 and see where your room response is from there. Then its time to start tweaking to get a nice smooth response like the one on the first post of this thread in my room.

Since you are cutting the low frequencies you should get better output and have more headroom, as the power it takes to drive those lower freq. is a lot more. I assume your sub is tuned at 25 and the dip at 45-50 is room modes. Careful with boosting. You'll be okay as long as you don't run it on the rails, but if you add another sub and position it so that at your listening position it has a lot of 50Hz output you can drop that boost there and only cut.

Yes I think Im going to do it your way. My Subs are on either side of the room close to the Main speakers. There not close to the wall at all. He is actually an installer for them. He seems quite spot on but he did mention about getting something like the SMS.

Well ultimately the best part about all this is if you ever want to test both methods its incredibly easy and quick to flip/flop back and forth with your settings to get the best results. Keep in mind that you are not moving the subs around, so they will pretty much be consistent with the results.

Good luck and report back with your results, and post some pics of your system and SMS like I did at the beginning of this thread.

Funny I completely forgot about this thread, it is so old, and even the first pic is seriously out of date because the old firmware on the SMS had drastic roll-off problems, but now that its fixed I get much better response down to the teens, even in my big huge room.

Again, - make sure that you have the latest firmware..... SMS-1 v2.1.3 is the most recent.

Hey Midnight.. This thread is incredibly old, but has been revived by Franin, so he can gain some incite to the SMS-1.... those pics are really old before the updated firmware which is why there was such a serious rolloff, and I have since changed the adjusting of my EQ so as not to have so much boost like I did, which was far too much.... My now Dual Plus/2's have pretty darn good output in my 8200^3 room, but Its just not as tactile as I would like, compared to my F112 in my 1700^3 bedroom setup. :(

That will be changing very soon...

I nearly pulled the trigger on an SMS-1, thanks for the evaluation!

That is amazingly flat (I have a large area to tame too)!
