Part 2- 3800 Volume display

Well, I just returned from my dealer. The new models from Yamaha have the same small volume display.

My dealer said the fix was easy, "just get a McIntosh or Anthem" He said that these had big diplays because if you can afford one, you are probably old and can't see well.

His solution was to run a second video out(analog) to the PIP of the display and add a button to the Harmony, name it "volume" and be done with it.

I see where this will be ok with TV but I don't use my display with music so for that I will just set the max volume to a safe level for those drunk, stereo blasting nights and learn to live with the thing!

Any flaws in this plan?

Maybe I missed this from the old thread but why do you want/need to see the volume display?

I have installed a function on the Harmony that shocks me if I try to override the max volume.
Drunken override of the max volume setting. :D

Of course, actually seeing the volume display doesn't really matter to you at those times, does it? ;)

Yep, the Yammies used to display a bigger display when you adjust the volume but now it stays small. It drives me crazy but I am sure I will get used to it The wife made a comment about hating my new AVR because she can't see the volume. She still hasn't noticed that the sound while watching TV comes from the system and not the TV..;)
Good enough reason for me! I can only tell on my Pioneer while I'm changing it.

Unethical?

Last time I was at Greg's I took the liberty of measuring his hearing loss as it relates to his drinking [in a credible manner of course] such that everyone on the forums can gain a true understanding of why his Paradigms are in and out of rehab more than Brittany Spears...

The results are shown below and I must say are staggering.

Clearly, as Greg drinks more he becomes grossly abusive to his poor Paradigms...I have it on good authority the only reason they stay with him is because of the constant shiny presents! :D

3 things for you here buddy:

1. You are only allowed to respond to threads discussing perceptual research

2. You were more drunk than me and I am pretty certain I saw my big dog humping on you in the backyard

3. You have not seen the abuse that I do to my Digms when I am home alone and feeling sexy

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

So that's were the bruise came from

I was wondering what that was leaking out of them ...I thought it was odd when you said Digms use coolant ;).

It appears I've given out too much reputation today, but you deserve full credit for this one. It's great. I'll get you tomorrow when my rep gun is reloaded.

Edit - Stop it you guys. I'm dying over here.:D:D:D

Dont be nasty....
Nastiness is in the mind of the reader, me thinks. :p Okay, no, that's pretty much what I meant.

[Woah, just saw your post about being alone with the speakers. "Hello, pot?" :D]

The results are shown below and I must say are staggering.
It's probably just scatter and measurement uncertainty, but there appears to be a level of drunkeness at which Greg's hearing begins to rebound. Perhaps the only problem is that he isn't getting drunk enough.

Well, I just returned from my dealer. The new models from Yamaha have the same small volume display.
The stupid volume bar annoyed me enough to create a program that gives me back the large volume display.

However, it does require an RS-232 connection to a PC, with an application running on the PC at all times, so it's not for everyone. It's working well for me and I use it all the time, but the only feedback I have so far from others is that it's not working on an RX-V2700. Could be the 2700 works differently, or I just released a program that only works on my PC :).

Looks like I can't post a link yet, otherwise I could show you what it looks like.

Well the second video feed didn't work. The only PIP type option on my TV is a "split" screen so if I set the volume display up this way I have 36.5'' of movie and 36.5'' of volume display.

Non-optimal, sure, but if you can't see THAT, then you should really get your eyes checked.

Oh, wait. I missed the obvious...time for a new TV! Happy birthday to Greg, happy birthday to Greg... :)

What can I say, I'm awesome .

Actually, I am pretty sure he was so drunk he thought he was turning up the volume, but was actually turning it down. Its really hard to control for drunken debauchery :p.

You are sick my friend.

I know, its going to be a blast.

You should try and convince Carolyn we need a GTG at your place. Everyone brings speakers and a bottle of booze .

Hahahahaha!!! I actually laughed out loud at that one. Thanks!
Anytime.
