It's possible that the place where a box sub performs well is not where the cylinder will do well. I have many options to place the box around - the cylinder can only go in that one area (beside the couch) because:
1. It blocks my projected image if I put it in front.
2. The area beside the couch is where I can place without the "female friend" not making a fuss about it. Also, the SVS's active green light was very distracting when I placed it in front.
I can certainly tell that the DPS12 cannot hit the lows with the clarity of the 20-39+ - take for example the Queen's spaceship arrival scene in SW:EP2. It farts out when the ship is about to land, release a whole wad of distorted belch. However, aside from scenes with really low bass, the sub has a much more pleasant sound to the bass. It is MUCH, MUCH tighter and even sounding than the SVS that just blew me away. I couldn't believe how boomy and bloaty the SVS sounded no matter what I did.
I think what may also be happening is that the DPS12's higher THD is causing more tactile sensation. But this is what I like. Bottom line: I want my couch to shake like a buttkicker. The Velo does it, the SVS could not. I had friends over last night for Poker, then we watched Batman Begins on Blu-ray. One of them had seen it with the SVS (we watched it before going to see DK on IMAX as refreshment). He mentioned that the New sub sounds better, and he "felt some crazy ****!" I didn't tell him that it cost 1/3 less.
I am truly perplexed.
