I picked up a nice used little Parasound HCA-1000A amp (will be shipped soon), which is THX ultra certified. So in honor, I made a custom setting for my Yamaha. Along with one of my fav movies ever! :)

So I thought I'd post a pic.

Here's the replacement for the SVS. Got it at Future Shop for $399 for the heck of it to compare to the 20-39PC+. And guess what! It obliterates it for nearfield tactile effects. Because of the slot loaded design, the sub doesn't feel boomy or bloaty like the SVS does. It certainly doesn't have the depth or detail of the SVS, but at 25hz and up, it is so much nicer sounding (in my room). Funny thing is, War of the Worlds is much more intense with the DPS12 than it is with the 20-39PC+. Either my SVS is defective or the DPS12 is a much better nearfield sub than many give it credit for.

That's interesting to hear. I've been considering another sub so I can build a two channel system but most of the subs I would consider seem pretty pricey in Canada. I'll keep the Velodyne in mind for a trial because you can't beat Future Shop's return policy, especially since I'll want two of them.

Looks like 2 of those subs would be pretty bad *** for a 2ch system. They can be had for ~$300 online so they might be very worthwhile.

that sure doesn't sound right. it's also possible it's caused by the subwoofer location. you should ask SVS/sonic boom how/why a DPS can beat the SVS.

I have to admit right away that I'm very surprised that sub out performs the SVS. Are you going off of memory, or doing a side by side comparison? I'm thinking the SVS was not set up right (fairly certain based on your other posts), but if you're happy with the lesser sub then that's great.

It's possible that the place where a box sub performs well is not where the cylinder will do well. I have many options to place the box around - the cylinder can only go in that one area (beside the couch) because:

1. It blocks my projected image if I put it in front.
2. The area beside the couch is where I can place without the "female friend" not making a fuss about it. Also, the SVS's active green light was very distracting when I placed it in front.

I can certainly tell that the DPS12 cannot hit the lows with the clarity of the 20-39+ - take for example the Queen's spaceship arrival scene in SW:EP2. It farts out when the ship is about to land, release a whole wad of distorted belch. However, aside from scenes with really low bass, the sub has a much more pleasant sound to the bass. It is MUCH, MUCH tighter and even sounding than the SVS that just blew me away. I couldn't believe how boomy and bloaty the SVS sounded no matter what I did.

I think what may also be happening is that the DPS12's higher THD is causing more tactile sensation. But this is what I like. Bottom line: I want my couch to shake like a buttkicker. The Velo does it, the SVS could not. I had friends over last night for Poker, then we watched Batman Begins on Blu-ray. One of them had seen it with the SVS (we watched it before going to see DK on IMAX as refreshment). He mentioned that the New sub sounds better, and he "felt some crazy ****!" I didn't tell him that it cost 1/3 less.

I am truly perplexed.

Cut a piece (or more) of black duct tape and cover the light. If you cut it well, it's almost impossible to notice it.

Added a PB10 NSD. Returned the Velodyne. This one is a keeper.

Shots of my W500 projected onto a white wall. There was some light in the room, plus I have no stand for the camera. So everything came out a bit blurry.

Even with the "blur" it still looks very sharp. Nice PJ.:)
