I haven't seen any of this series, but have heard a lot of talk about it. Is it really that good?

It is outstanding. One of the best film representations of WWII that exists. The story-line is thrilling and holds very true to the actual facts. Unlike many war movies not everything is a success story- people die, they lose limbs, they go crazy, and they fail at their jobs. It's definitely a "humanized" look at the war, and addresses everything from basic training to D-day to concentration camps to VE day and the thought of having to fight a land war in the pacific. I actually initially watched a lot of it with my laptop open and googled many of the battles/people that came up so I could learn more.

I enjoy it so much that whenever it comes on the History channel I'll get sucked in, commercials and all. My wife always yells at me to just put the damn DVDs in so we don't have to deal with commercial breaks :)!

If you'd like to borrow the SD boxset I'm more than happy to mail it your way. It's easier than having to rent through Netflix b/c once you watch one episode there's no way you'll want to wait for the next set of discs to come.

j, in case you might still be riding the fence, a big +1 to what rmk and aberkowitz said. The content is top notch. I sort of wish I was in your position having not seen it, so that I can see it for the first time again.

The only thing I worry about is PQ on the BD transfer (the HD-DVD was not spectacular, and the DVD was simply poor IMO). However, for someone who hasn't seen it yet, scroo it, watch it, and be immersed!

To add to what aberkowitz said, I enjoyed how different aspects of the before-and-after of war were portrayed. Especially the, ummm, for lack of better words, "detente" after the war was over. Slightly eerie feeling of listless/bored/useless that I got from the characters. Pretty cool, I don't see that too often in war movies...

Some awesome battle scenes. D-day= from above. Great ensemble. Great commentary footage by the actual real folks portrayed, interspersed throughout the series from beginning to end.

A-must-see. Convinced? :D

+1. I've got the SD set and I will definitely get the BD set when it comes out. It is that good. Every now and then, my wife and I will set aside a whole weekend to watch the whole set consecutively.

I was thinking about picking this up, but I'm going to wait for my PS3 and get the Blu Ray. A really awesome series.

You can preorder this for $59.97 plus Free Shpping at WHV if you use coupon code AUBM8 (25% off, free shipping over $50). I might do that or simply wait a bit longer to see if Amazon or anyone else has a better deal.

I preordered some other titles from there (like Dark City) and had an overall good experience with them.

If that's the case, then it's a no brainer. Not only is the action/war scenes very dramatic and real but the characters and their stories become addictive as well.

Highly recommended !! Dang, I may have to move to Blu-Ray faster than I'd have liked.

BOB, was themed and filmed much like Saving Private Ryan, but like others have said, you actually get to "know" the characters. It's really special when something comes out that's done so well that you actually begin to feel a vested interest in the characters. Band of Brothers is one of those.

I watched it start to finish when it first came out on HBO and have seen it probably 5times in full since then. it's that good.

Also think that it's one of the best done series ever. For something even more amazing, read the book that the series is based on. You'll see just how much of the series is true (like 99% of it). Plus, you'll get to read stories that didn't make the cut, but are still simply awesome.

I just posted this in the Deals section, and while that gets ok'd by the mods, I'll post it here too. Just in case j_garcia's code is now defunct, and besides I think this one should get 30% off multiple purchases:

Warner Bros 30% off coupon code

ANWBTS

You must buy at least two items for the coupon to work. I haven't plugged the coupon in myself, but I believe* that Band of Brothers is being had for $57, free shipping.

Hope this works out for you.
