System individuality....

But it's no surprise when we do the math of probability. You take a thousand different receivers, pre-pros, preamps, amps, speakers, subwoofers, displays, and media players and you get a billion probability.
Yep. It's like they say: Given an infinite number of audioholics, an infinite number of systems, and an infinite amount of time - statistically there will eventually be one of them that will like Bose. :D

[Just kidding...Bose is fine...]

At some point, I will have B&W 800's, 801's, or 802's along with a full compliment of Mcintosh amps in a room that's more of a media room as opposed to a single purpose theater.

I will acquire this stuff not because it's the best money can buy, not because I saw it in a magazine or someone told me to get it. I'll get it because when I think about the stuff I want most, the stuff that just reeks coolness to me, that make my heart go pitter-patter, it's that.

You can argue the performance, you can argue that "this" sounds better than "that" but it's all nonesense in the grand scheme of things. We buy what makes us happy. I doubt few of us have ever bought something we really didn't like just because we thought it was better than something we did. Who does that?

But you know what? One of the best sounding set-ups I ever heard was an older (back in the 80s) realistic 30 wpc receiver hooked up to some Sansui speakers. Part of that impression has to do with my age at the time, and certainly, lack of knowledge. But it's one of those things that has stayed with me. I know some people just cringe at the thought of those old 70s and 80s box speakers. But this system really sounded good.
No I am not at all surprised croseiv. Sansui made some impressive gear back then. A neighbor of mine at one time had a set of 15" 3-way tower speakers that were very impressive. He also had some sort of eq with flickering lights which was kool at the time.:cool: Just reminds me of the good ole times.

Cheers,

Phil

Performance-wise, I know both are outstanding, but for some reason, they do nothing for me. I don't know why. Neither one give me that "oooooooh" factor that I require - if spending that kind of dough.

Martin Logan intrigues me, but so far, I have and still do, love those B&W's. Oddly enough, it wasn't until recently that I really started to dig the Mcintosh stuff. I've really gained an appreciation for that classic look now that I'm older.

This is exactly what I want down the road:

Marantz SC-7S2 Preamps x 3
Marantz MA-9S2 Monoblocks x 5
Revel Ultima Salon2 x 5
:D:D:D

It is a good thing that we all have different systems. If we didn't, what would we talk about here?

Good point. We basically have three large groups of things to talk about... 1) The stuff we have 2) The stuff we'd really want to have that's somewhat attainable maybe at some point down the road (like my B&W Mcintosh dream) and 3) The stuff we like to think about though there's really no hope of ever owning it, but is still fun to look at and think about.

Very interesting perspective Chris. We could also talk about your BBQing us all some ribbs or some rib-eyes.........LOL!!!!!! :p:p Or, perhaps taking a dip in your pool although not sure if all of us would fit.:eek:

Cheers,

Phil

Speaking of food... have you been to the STEAM VENT section? We started the official Audioholics Cookbook thread (and a second one that I created and put all the posted reciepes into a WORD file attachment)

Apparently we have a lot of high end closet chefs here. I'm not the only one!

Yes, I did see it. I have been keeping an eye on it. Sure does make me hungry though. Thanks for sharing my friend.

Cheers,

Phil
