That is a beautiful looking square. The architecture is really something else. I just wouldn't want to deal with the cold, especially after being in southern Arizona for over a decade. :)

...and what problems lie beneath? I'm going to start a steam vent thread on home woes just for the fun of it and we'll really get to the bottom of this. Looks can be deceiving. :)

I still like the buildings, my friend. Sure, Russia has its problems, just like everywhere else. Plus, where else can you buy a ride in a fighter jet for $10K?

Reminds me of when my dad made a comment about a girl being a real double-bagger. Hard to imagine my shock unless you'd lived for 15 years in a remarkably repressed household prior to that statement. Hilarious, indeed, but took me by suprise. :)

I've been to Russia several times as my wife is Russian and can say that it's a great place to visit. Moscow and Ekaterinburg weren't anything special, although Moscow has the best subway system I've seen. St. Petersburg was something else really and I'd love to go back. There's a lot of money to be made in Russia right now for those who are bold.

They do. 122+ million total cast ballots.
We had 300 million total population in the last census. Take away all those not eligible and I just don't see that 17% no way, no how:eek:

Oh, there was a big outcry here locally about my state only having about 14% voter turnout. There was also a lot of discussion about there only being about 17% nationally. So, that is how I understood it. Even at 40%, that is still pathetic in my book. Good Lord, people have died just to see that we had a right to vote. Blood has been shed, tears have fallen, and families destroyed yet only 40% vote. :eek::eek: I mean WTF is wrong here? :confused::confused: Personally, I guess it is just too much trouble to get registered and Lord forbid them to get off their lazy a$$e$ and vote on election day. Must be too much trouble. Oh well, my point is that we, as Americans, can easily do much better and the time is NOW.

Perhaps people feel it makes no difference in their lives these days. I for one always vote, but I also believe the right to vote shouldn't be granted at birth.

I think voting rights should be based under certain criteria, such as how they where conceived.:D

This is not how I remember it, but I admit I could be wrong. However, either way it still is pathetic even at 61%. At the very least, it should be no lower than 85% or so. Of course, this is MY point of view as others may feel differently. Personally, I think of the sacrifices people have made just to ensure I have a right to vote. It is NOT only a priviledge, but my duty to do so.

Over 62 million people voted for George Bush in 2004. The US population at that time was about 300 million. Do the math ;)

Bush got about 62 million. That would be over 20% of the overall population. :) every man, woman and child.
