I have been reading reviews on all three subs. pw-2200, svs and hsu. One question i have is build quality. alot of people are saying the svs and hsu dont have the quality (box, amp, and woofer) that that paradigm does.
If anyone can help me out. I want the best sub new or used for 500 bucks.
thanks guys!
I haven't ready anything about poor build quality with the MFW15. But I do know there on back order and its looking like thats the sub I might be getting once I decide what finish to get. If you still haven't got your sub yet I'll let you know what I think, but from what "I" read its a keeper.

I've never seen or heard an HSU sub

As i stated before.. the SVS and Paradigm are excellent subs, build quality for both are excellent. I just think the paradigm edges out ahead. In addition i think the paradigm is more musical than the SVS.

BTW make sure u have someone to help you move them. THey are not light pieces of equipment.

# 5 Subwoofers care what they play

Your subwoofer driver does not have a conscience, and it does not perform better with one type of music over another. It’s just a driver. Good subwoofer systems will play all types of music or movie material very well. A bad subwoofer system may have a null or peak in the frequency response that may benefit some material over others but essentially this non-linear behavior is not ideal. It is true that movies have lower frequency content and perhaps more dynamic bass than music, especially with the recent compressed CD’s of the last 10 or so years, but a good system can be used for movies and music alike if it is indeed a “good” system.

It is also true that it tends to be more important to emphasize subsonic frequencies in the home theater environment versus the music environment where there is simply less emphasis on subsonic inaudible material. As a tradeoff, you can align a system to be more efficient above 30Hz or so. This trade off reduces the bandwidth but increases the SPL. Careful consideration should be taken to insure linear response is still maintained. It is very easy to have peaky bass with low Q drivers in high tuned ported systems. This is approaching the concept of basic SPL vehicles which use low Q, highly sensitive drivers tuned very high for very narrow but ferociously peaky response. Such systems are not very ideal for listing to music material of any kind. If you want your system louder, then it is better to add a second driver, more volume and more amplification, rather than tuning higher. It is important to understand that getting more SPL without compromise is never very cheap!

1 - HSU V-3-2 ($450? -Used)
2 - Paradigm, because you've heard it and like it.
3 - SVS PB10

This is assuming you don't want to put out the $$ for the MFW-15. I calculate about $50 for gas roundtrip.

Alright guys. Just a little update. I made the decision to go and pick up the pw-2200 in los angels. However, right before i was leaving the house on sat. morning i checked the internet again to see if anything new was posted for sale. Well, i find an add that says "Complete home theater for sale-Paradigm studio60's v.3" in LA for $2000.
So if figure since i am going out there i might as well check them out. Keep in mind 2000 dollars for me is alot, I thought monitor 7s where expensive.
So i pull up to this highrise in Beverly Hills. Go up to the appartment on the 22nd floor. I go look at the stuff and he is selling a pair of studio 60's v.3 a paradigm cc-570, rel q130e sub, arcam dv-78 dvd player, and the best thing of all a B&K avr-507 reciever. All the items are flawless used in an apartment and he wants 2 grand for everything. Need less to say i was shocked!!! gave him my $2000 and said i would take it. He said i am moving so if you want all the cable take it. The cable was all nordost stuff which i am not really firmilar with but i know its expensive. Best deal ever, i couldnt believe it.
I got everything home plugged it in and it amazing.
I still need a good sub though, thanks for you help. Now i just need to get enough posts so i can start selling it my stuff here

Enjoy your Studio 60's!! Big jump from the monitor 7!

Why do you need a sub still? I thought you got a sub in the whole set.

Does the B & K have HDMI? I dont think it does, which may be a problem for you down the road. I would ditch the Arcam dvd player and get an oppo or even a blu-ray if you dont already have one (HD-DVD too ;) )

The set came with a rel q150e. Perfect for this guys small apt. but not in my 20x20 room. Its a small, small sub 10 inch i think. Great sound just not enough to fill my room like my pdr-12 by paradigm. Not saying that its good but it just fills the room better than the rel.
I will tell you what though when i plugged it in i was amazed at its performance. I would love to hear it in a small room.

Did you try running both together with checking different placements? Maybe both working together can save you from buying a new sub.

All you need is an extra sub cable and y-adapter.

that's a very specific price range. nothing under 999? :)

do you own the MFW-15? what other subs did you compare it to?

worth noting though is that the MFW-15 costs 130USD to ship.
WOW 130 to ship, I wonder if its double for two? Mike do you know if you have to run any type of line filter with those, I read somewhere that someone had a humming going on and had to run some type of a inline filter.

yes, it's double for two. (it is a pretty massive subwoofer)

i wouldn't know about the hum. i would guess that it's not a design problem, but an amp factory defect which means only a few people would be lucky enough to get the "defective" amps. ;)

how does AV123 handle the people with the hums? do they offer to replace the amp? that should be your gauge if the hums matter or not. if they DO replace the humming amps, don't worry, they'll take care of you.

I guess thats pretty fair for shipping I didnt consider the weight but yes the hum does have me concerned and yes it would bother me. I love the looks of the sub and it did get a good review. I sent them a email asking about availability last night and they responded the next day so I was impressed with that and have the feeling that after sales help will be just as good but you never know. I sent another email a little while ago asking about the hum issue and will see what happens . From previous experiences when they have excellent communications before the sale there normally good after. Also keep in mind that it was just a thread I read on there forum that the one person had the issue and just got the sub but got a filter and it went away but it could of been just 1 out of hundreds of subs and or the person could of had other isssues going on. Thats giving AV123 the benifit of the dought. Anyway thats definitely something im not wanting to deal with. Especialy if I'd have to pay the shipping back. Well will see what happens when they email back with a answer. Like I said they appear to be very helpful :)

glad to hear that, but it's also good to have on email record their solutions for a possible hum. for example, if they go on record and say that they will replace a humming amp on their dime. that will be good for you.

on another note, having a good pre-sales service DOES NOT equal a good after-sales service. ouch.

Im a little more concerned now : ( sounds like they have top notch customer service when you read into the second thread but I dont know if I want to make a purchase with that in the back of mind to start with as far as having problems and wondering if the problem is going to develop later after the warranty expires.
