When will the 3809 be released so I can upgrade from my 3808 I got early this year?

I dont think we will see a 3809. Most likely they will wait for the 3810 to come out. They did the same thing a few years ago when skipping the 3807.

Why wouldnt you want the 2809? Its a better unit.

It would be a step down from the 3808.
I made that mistake once before when I went from a 3805 to a 2807. After a few weeks I sold the 2807 and got a 3806 which sounded better than the 2807.

Having compared the 2808 with the 3808 side by side playing the Star Cruiser scene from Star Wars EP3, there is NO question in my mind that the 3808 possesses much better DACs and components. It's more defined and has a 'weight' to the sound that the 2808 can't do.

They use the same processors.

The only difference between the two is that the 3808 has a little more power, which may be perceived has having more "weight".

Did you test them at the same spl output using a meter.

we need a 3808 vs. 2809 head to head features matchup

you guys pretty sure they're skipping the 38XX? was the 3808 announced the same time as the other 08 models before?

Are the DACs the same between both units? The previous models were different.

There is no way I would take the 2809 over the 3808.

Don't do it, Mike!:D

Search your feelings. You know it's true!:D

What's the difference between the AVR-2809CI and the AVR-989?

I have to admit, the back panel of the AVR-2809CI looks very sexy.

I agree. I was very close to spending the extra and getting the 2808CI because of Audessey, Denon's remote, and obviously that mellow elasticy sound that Denon produces. But only 2 HDMI input was a huge drawback. I already had 2 HDMI devices and wanted options for the future.

The 2809 seems to be one up my alley. When it's out, if the reviews are good, I'll replace my Pioneer with one.

First to offer Audyssey’s Dynamic Volume technology, which appears in all 10 new AVRs starting at a suggested $299. The technology maintains a consistent volume level and flat frequency response when a TV program cuts to a commercial, when a TV channel changes, when video sources are switched and when a movie or TV soundtrack transitions to softer or louder passages. The technology also automatically equalizes sound to maintain flat response when a program transitions to louder or softer passages, and it maintains an enveloping surround-sound experience during softer passages.

Added dual XM/Sirius-ready capability for the first time to AVRs

Expanded compatibility of AVRs with its optional ZigBee-based wireless-RF remote

wouldnt this dynamic volume technology strangle the loud passages (explosions, gunshots ... basically anything with bass)

I wonder if they will offer this for the xx08 receivers. They are supposed to offer some upgrades this Summer. Hopefully the upgrades won't cost very much.
