I'm also about ready to pull the trigger on a 3808 and wonder if the 2809 will have any advantages and most importantly sound as good as or better than the 3808. The features mentioned above are not important to me but I'm sure others will find them useful. I compared the 2808 to the 3808 for about five seconds and as soon as I saw only two HDMI inputs on the 2808 I moved on. But the 2809 now has four so I want to fully understand the differences before I make a decision.

I'll most likely be going the Dakmart route again, I've had no issues with my 3805 I purchased from them almost four years ago, and the price is similar to what the street price will be on the 2809.

They don't talk about this in the first post. I too wondered if you would be able to upgrade the 3808 to these features.

weighs about 40% more than the 2808. Something like 28# vs. 39#. Has to be in the amps and/or transformers. It's not lead shot!! I would assume that the 2809 would be similar in weight to the 2808.

You might call J&R and see if they will price-match Dakmart.

Dakmart listed the Denon DVD-3800BDCI for about $1,670 (including shipping & insurance). It's also Re-Certified like all their Denons. However, they did NOT even have them in stock.

J&R sold me the DVD-3800BDCI for $1,700 BRAND NEW (including Shipping).

Bigggggggggggggggggggg Feature to me

wouldnt this dynamic volume technology strangle the loud passages (explosions, gunshots ... basically anything with bass)

I don't know how this would be done. Limiting explosions, gunshots ect. would be bad, but I would guess you could turn this feature off when watching a good movie.

The louder comericals kill me !!!!!!! I hate when that up volume happens!!!!

No networking?

I'm looking for a receiver that can access my digital music/video collection stored on my home network...

...and I read tn001d's post on the capabilities chart above for each of the AVRs. I'm surprised to see that, although in the Denon Line Show 2008 article, Denon describes the AVR as the center of the home network: "Jeff Talmadge continued the presentation, picking up with Denon's key objectives for 2008. He described five key areas of focus that included reinforcing the AV receiver as the core of the networked home...", Denon has not included any networking capability in this new lineup.

Not sure of Denon's decision to keep this networking capability absent from their new lineup...anyone know how the wireless and ethernet capabilities fared on the 3808 and the 4308? I'm disappointed by the company saying one thing and apparently doing the exact opposite.

Are there any third party wireless capabilities out there that allow me to play the music/video from my network across the AVR? Like the Sonos, but for a computer network?

Also, does anyone know if the menu system (OSD) that went over so well with the 3808 and 4308 will be included in the 2809?

yeah, they look the same ... no aesthetic facelift ...

but the 2809 is cheaper than the 3808 and has everything i need ...

Mike, take a look of the impressive lab test results of the 3808, there is nothing wrong with this thing. Nice 4 ohms numbers, has Ethernet port, making firmware update/fixes easy. It has got to be better than the 2809, unless you want to wait for the 3810.

Sorry I forgot I did that already! I am surprised to see the 3808 has better lab results than the 4308 in terms of power. I bought the 4308 mainly because of the wifi but I missed the fact that I could have got around that issue easily and cheaply. The 3808 really is a winner as long as you don't need that Reon chip.
