Rebuidling HallMark Sounds KEW 3 loudspeakers

Alright, ive recently acquired an old set of HallMark Sound KEW 3 (apparently they were affiliated with Dayton back in the day??) loudspeakers. The woofers surrounds are completely gone, and sound as if they have been blown as well. I dont know very much about the crossovers, as i cant find any info online about the speakers themselves, so i dont know what would pair well with them.

Im looking to rebuild them for my brother to use for stereo purposes, and im wondering if it would be best to re-foam them (they could possibly not be blown, is there a way to check this?), or to find a nice woofer to match (i know its impossible to "match", but come close).

I've got some pics of the guys, including crossovers. I was just wondering if you guys could give me an opinion on them, what would be the best course of action. They look beautiful and im sure they used to pound back in the day (although the owner wouldn't have pushed them what-so-ever), and would make a great first set of speakers.

Any help is most appreciated, i figured if they were old daytons, PE might have a nice replacement woofer that'll save me the trouble of re-foaming and (possibly) finding the woofers are blown.

Thanks alot guys!

Dustin

Refoaming is quite straight forward. If the foam is gone, the speakers have gap rub and sound blown. To re foam the speakers you need the foam surround, a new dust cap, the correct shims to set the voice coil gap and the right glue for the foam. That will be your cheapest and best solution.

refoam-a-no-go

i just ran a multi-meter with my dad today (he works bell canada cable repair), only to find that the woofers are indeed blown. So re-foaming isn't going to be an option unfortunately. Apparently the old owner might have pumped these bad boys back in the day!

Can anyone give me an idea of what kind of woofer i should look at given the fact that the boxes are about 1.75 cu feet, and the crossover pic given? I know its not much to work with, but the woofer it the terminals on the far right. I don't know how to tell what frequencies are being cut, and like i said, finding info on these speakers is pretty much impossible.

I do know that they were purchased around the early 1970's as i got a very nice SONY STR-7055 in great working condition along with it. I'd never seen a receiver with 6 stereo channels on it before. Im looking forward to hooking up the bose 601's, infinity RSe's and these (KEW 3's) puppies when they are fixed up, for a full retro system, should be great!

Just give me a push in the right direction, i dont want to buy a woofer that'll put these speakers to shame, just something that'll make em sound good again.

Thanks again!

They are not worth the bother. You can't work a woofer backwards, for lots of reasons. Those speakers are ready for the recycling center.
