I have thought of it a couple of times to get rid of my Cerwins, but they sound so good when I listen to MUSIC and movies! They are bulky but that really does not bother me! What is really out there that compares to there VS-150's? My wife likes the Bose but I dont think I do, heard Polk but I was not sold? When I go and listen to them I feel I am missing something can anyone help?

Thanks for your thoughts!

Wives are always gonna like Bose. They look nice. But stay clear of Bose.

If your looking for something thats a step up from Cerwin Vega I would look at Paradigm, Athena, PSB, B&W, Axiom, Mirage, Energy, Klipsch are just to name a few.

You probably wont get the bass of Cerwin Vega's but you will get a more accurate bass. Tighter and more deifned would be the best way to describe it. Also the mids and highs will be more prominent, but cleaner and more natural with better depth and imaging. I lived with the my buddy for two years who owns the Vs-100's and the above comments are what I noticed when i moved up.
Cerwin Vegas are great speakers for bass and rock music fans that like LOUD spls and a clean sound. They just aren't nearly as refined as some of the other companies listed.

Specific picks to replace the Cerwin Vegas would be -

Energy - C7 or C9 maybe C5 not sure how big you would like your speakers.

Paradigm - Monitor 7 or 9

PSB - Image T55 or T65

Athena - ASF2

There are many other options these are just some suggestions of speakers to listen to. Give us some more infor such as price, styles of music, and size of room and more options can be given.

I can quickly tell you that spending loads of cash on new speakers won't bring you to your knees. The old 12" and 15" three way speakers were outstanding for rock and rap/hip hop, and were super efficient or "loud". The new bookshelves and thin towers with small woofers coupled with subs have a totally different sound, and require more power. Heck, back in the 80's - my old JVC 30wpc receiver, my 10 band BSR eq, with my 3 way AAL's and 12" woofers played louder than my current system can (no where as clean, but great for those frat parties!) I guess you can say a more "grown up" sound that compliments classical, jazz, and home theater. If you are happy with your CV's and the better half can live with them, keep them. Otherwise, the speakers listed above are all fantastic, but you'll need a large subwoofer to make up for the loss in bass you are used to. What receiver or amp are you running? Do you have a center channel or sub?

Right now I have a 12 old JVC 100 wattx2 20 watt rear 65 center receiver! O did I mention that its old! I am looking at the Pioneer 1014tx I am really liking this one for the money! Masterchief I see you have this unit ? Can you give me some words on this one?

I have to look at my center speaker for the model but its also Cerwin!
I would like to maybe switch but I need to hear some others before I decide to change! There is no place here in the Burgh to listen to upper class speakers at? All I know is Bestbuy and Circuit City and I try to stay out of those stores. I dont know if any of you remeber SOLOS that was a nice Audio store back in the mid 90's. I am looking around I just dont know of any good places I guess I can get online too?

My last system had Cerwin Vega D7's. They have a 12" woofer, 2 x 5" mids, & horn tweeter. As mentioned above, they were great for rock/rap, ok for movies. I have owned them since '85. They still work good today.

But, the new system BLOWS them away. If you were to compare the two speaker systems in 2-channel on the same amp, the Cerwins would be louder, but the sound quality and bass would be better with the new speakers and sub.

The speakers offered today are incredible. I would look at B&W, Monitor Audio, Paradigm, Energy, and Athena. I am using MB Quart, which require a high quality receiver or a seperate amp due to the fact they are 4ohm.

Hey Vegaman. Athena is available at Best Buy. So is the Pioneer who knows maybe you can get a package deal.

Also have you tried going to the manufactures sight and done a dealer check. Worth a shot if you have not. You may have a dealer near by.

Ill start by telling you the 1014 is awesome why because it has alot of great features and power for a nice price. Like ive said before the 1014 is almost identical as the Pioneer Elite 52Tx, the specs are all the same. Its pretty massive for like 399 usd im not sure i got it cheaper. The unit weighs like 34pounds.As does the elite but for way more money.(I like how the elite looks tho withs its gold writing :D) In stereo its a preety good amp not the best but good i dont think ull be dissapointed. For HT its also pretty damn good my room is about 18 x 13 i cant remember and it fills it up quite nicely and theres alot of open space in my room. I like the video up conversion nice feature. The MCACA is pretty good too, also accurate.I read somewere pioneer was the first to have an auto setup thing. I just fell in love with DTS-ES i love 7.1 . The reciever is great and no complaints about it.You coud check on audioreview for great reviews http://www.audioreview.com/A/V Receivers/Pioneer/PRD_327656_2718crx.aspx as for the last review he gave it a good value rating but 1/5 for overall why because he had a faulty one, and he complains about the remote for like a 350 -399 reciever when i saw the lil lcd screen on the remote i was like nice lol.But everyone is entitled to there own opinion.

Also they do have bundle like the pioneer 1014 with 5.1 northbridge speakers
i think the 10" 150 watt sub, the center , the e50's which i think are the towere and 2 rear bookshelves for about 1200CAD. maybe they could do it wit the athenas IMO i think there a better value and sound.

Interestingly enough, in my search for an entry level system that isn't HTiB and doesn't rely on tiny satellites that can't go below 100hz I've found the Cerwin-Vega V-5M and V-5C. I'll end up paying as much as many cheap satellite systems, but they'll go down to 60hz, plus they'll have the Cerwin-Vega name, which way back when meant something.

I have the VE-5C and VE-5M and think they are great speakers. i have them combined with the VE-12 fronts, and a VE-28s sub. it is very loud and sound quality is good overall in my opinion. you could no doubt spend more and get better but i love it loud and deep, and the cerwins deliver.:D

Don't forget Orbs. High WAF and great sound. They won't be as good as full speakers, but they hold their own.

Cerwin-Vegas are great party speakers, they are basically the mid-point between PA speakers and regular speakers. If that's what you're looking for, keep 'em. Otherwise, we can suggest some options based on your budget and music tastes.

Cerwin Vega are like others have said, they go loud, have chest pounding bass, and take minimal wattage to power to insane levels of output. If loud is your thing, Cerwin Vega is among the top for that. If accurate is your true desire, you will have to look at something else.

If you love that monster sound of Cerwin Vega, why change?

The CVs are a party speaker. They go loud and can stay loud without ever breaking a sweat. They would be my 1st choice at a frat party. However, if I wanted to seriously listen to music, there are much better alternatives out there.

This is a popular opinion, and i respect that. just wondering if its based on older models you guys have heard? Mine are 18 months old and i find them excellent at music and movies. fairly balanced, clear highs and clean mids although definitely bass heavy.:) Also just wondering how many of us have adopted this opinion of Cerwin Vega from others without actually listening to them set up properly? this will be interesting.......:D

Yes my opninions are based on older models. My dad had a pair and they weren't the best for classical music. But if I were you stick to CVs and always turn your back on Bose ;)
