Cambridge Audio has joined the latest ranks of companies to offer a turntable. I heard its built by ProJect to Cambridge specifications.

I still have an old Technics turntable. It doesn't get much use though. I have a moderate collection of old vinyl records. Alas, I'm a digital boy now though - I hooked up the turntable to my computer and digitized my entire vinyl collection a while back. :)

I like the feeling of involvment when playing vinyl. Taking it out of the sleeve, cleaning the album before cueing it up for play. Some people find this tedious, I savour that as part of the moment.

No it's not tedious, it's like smoking a fine cigar, you unwrap it you smell the aroma, you feel it in your hands, you appreciate the wrap; or like a fine wine, you uncork it, you sniff the cork, you let it breath, you decant....it's all a ritual that makes it that more enjoyable. I was into vinyl way back when, but after I went digital I never looked back, though I appreciate the rituals behind any hobby.:)

Yep, I'll give you that. I guess I'm just not so attached to the tradition, and I don't smoke cigars. ;) The first time I heard a CD, that was all it took, and more or less permanently shelved my vinyl collection. I had to knock off a lot of dust just to digitize them when I did. :D

Pro-Ject and the Music Hall I have (and probably others) are all made in the same factory in Czech Republic- they're very good TTs for the money. I don't play my vinyl very often either, but I enjoy the ritual on occasion.

There seem to be more tt brands than there were before cds came out.
I've read up on various brands, VIP, Music Hall, Clear Audio, etc. But I'm still using my '79 Yamaha direct drive.
I didn't have it hooked up between '99 ~ '05 as neither of my HT receivers had a phono input. Then I bought new speakers for the HT, freeing up my old mains for another room.
Cruised ebay and found a HK Citation 11 pre-amp and 19 power amp to connect the tt to. Its nice listening to vinyl again, along with dvd-a/sacd.

The first time I heard a CD player, I sold my turntable and my entire vinyl collection immediately. I used the money to buy my first CD player and start my CD collection. I have never looked back.

I am only repetitive to you regulars. Many people have never visited all the threads, much less read every post.;)

My wife inherited a lot of vinyl from here dad and I bought a used Rega TT. Got my tube phono preamp this week and have been enjoying every minute of it. Now I am getting ready to mod the tonearm and have bought some CDs I already own in vinyl. Most of them are a huge difference from the CD version, but I have mostly bought CDs that were mastered pretty bad to begin with.

I'm the same way. Back home I have two Technics 1210s (and Vestax mixer), I wish I had them here on campus, but, they take up too much space. So, when I go home I basically just listen to vinyl to get my fix. When it comes to vinyl, it's about the process and feel for me. I like thumbing through my record crates (I use mostly wine boxes, and a few DJ record cases), putting them on the slipmats, and enjoy the little pops and ticks and all that. It's cool to me, it's fun, nothing more, nothing less.

If anyone wants a turntable, I highly recommend buying Technics 1200/1210s. They are the DJ/nightclub standard for a reason, they are built excellent and they sound great. I've seen a lot of those goofy expensive turntables, and I'd much prefer a 1200 or 1210.
