Is Emotiva the ReIncarnation of Mondial Designs?

When I read all the infos and reviews regarding Emotiva amps and pre-pros, I can't help but feel that they have a lot in common with Mondial Designs, the parent company of Acurus and Aragon.

For examples, I keep on reading about Top Quality Parts like glass epoxy PCB boards, 1% metal-film resistors, etc., top build quality & fit/finish, straight forward engineering.... it almost sounds like Mondial Designs reincarnated!:D

...Especially with the Emotiva cosmetics of Black faceplate with Alluminum knobs and buttons...Scary...:D

are you trying to talk yourself into a new amp?

Mondial became Aragon, who was bought by Klipsch, and then put to sleep.

Looking at his sig I think he already did.:) AcuDef when did you get the MPS-2?

I know from speaking with Lonnie that they do make amps for others that sell for quite a bit more.

Yup, bit the bullet and got the MPS-2.:D

I will wait and see about the DMC-2 TrueHD/DTS-MA pre-pros. If all the reviews look great, I may have to talk myself into selling all my RL-11s and get the DMC-2.:)

I just did, buddy!

MPS-2.:D
I see... well now I guess you shall be known as EmoDefTechGuy from here on out. Congrats on the new amp, and welcome to the club! My IPS-1 is jealous. :D What made you decide to switch?

Your HT budget must really be in bad shape now.

Congrats, EmoDefTechGuy! :D Great choice.
Well, I still have my Acurus RL-11 preamps. So technically, I can still be AcuDefTechGuy.:D

Now if Emotiva ever come out with a pre-pros that can match the 2-ch audio performance of a true analog stereo preamp, then I will become a EmoDefTechGuy.:)

Well, nothing a little overtime can't fix, right?:D

What did it? Was it TLS guy telling you that your speakers were doomed as doomed can be?
I have a 10 year extended replacement warranty on my DefTechs, so I was not too worried. I guess I have always been looking for excuses to buy new gears. I've had those amps for over 11 years now. That's a long time.:D

Well, after your initial post, I wasn't about to trust Emotiva. But seeing how they did resolve your situation and how everyone else loved Emotiva, and especially reading all the great reviews, I started liking Emotiva.

The part that really interested was the fact that the reviewers were saying EMOs were world-class build quality: glass epoxy PCB boards, 1% metal-film resistors, 2 oz copper, etc. This was the same kind of quality that made Acurus famous back in the 90s. Then after comparing the aesthetics of Emos vs. Acurus, I was really sold. Elegant, top-notch build quality, great customer service, and great price. My kind of company.

I've never owned an actual HT amp before my IPS-1, but I can assure you it's build quality is top notch, and the unit is extremely solid. That thing seems to be built like a tank.

That's exactly what I've heard about Emotiva, which I absolutely love to hear.

9 channels of my Acurus amps = 3 different amp chassis = 105 lbs.
7 channels of Emotiva = 1 amp chassis = 115 lbs.

So that bad boy will be sitting on the top DOUBLE-glass top shelf!

Yeah, that's right, it used to be a single glass top. But now it's a double glass.

Top notch outside, top notch inside.

Mine is only about 80 lbs. so I can't imagine what the MPS amps are like... my only gripe is about the 12 volt trigger not being a standard 1/8 mono jack, but that's very minor.

Yep, the 12v is cheesy and I dont know why they did it that way but nothing a pair of snips and wire stripper wont fix in about 3 seconds.

Ummm...strippers...

I know, and that's what I did, but now there is absolutely no slack in that cable, and I need another 1/8 mono cable, and don't feel like getting one...

oh well... at least I won Motorstorm :p

I've never used any 12 volt trigger before. What are they for?
