Unfinished Component Cables

My place is wired for video and sound but none of the cables are trimmed out, just raw end wires. Where can I purchase the male ends to my component wires and once I buy them how hard is it to trim out the cables?

RCA fittings are fairly common. They're available even at your local home improvement store's electrical section. You will need special tools to do the job right, however. It's best to get the kit. Try this: http://www.firefold.com/images/products/Compression-Connector_Medium.jpg

You just need to make sure you buy the right ends for the cable thats there already. Most likely its wired with RG6 but may also be RG6Quad or RG59.

To get the tools to do them your looking at about 80 bucks. You need the compression tool and the strippers. I havent ever seen RCA ends at home depot or lowes myself but you can get them online.

Best to find out what kind of wires are pre-wired there. If video it takes one king. If audio, it takes another kind.
If you want a neat, professional look for the wall plates, you may want to visit Home Depot type of store or an electronics store that has audio wall plates of various kinds of fittings on them for the application to be used.

Some plates have fittings on them already, others you add to. Some you wire directly to the fitting on the plate such as speaker wires, and others, like video, you'd terminate the wire and then connect to the fitting on the wall plate.
Best to know what is really wired in the house and what wire.

Thanks for the info. I looked and the cables are ProConnect RG6/U. With that being said, what site offers me the best options for the connectors?

I think I would use an F type connector that fits an RG-6 type cable as they are different from the RG59 cable connector.
Then, use a wall plate that has an F type female on the back and an RCA on the front.
You may want to check partsexpress.com and perhaps your local Radio Shack as shipping on a few may be more than RS prices? You would need a stripper and a compression tool.

You can get the stuff you need at any number of places.

Personally, I look at partsexpress.com or hometech.com first, but you might also be able to find them locally at Radio Shack, Home Depot, Lowe's or any other hardware/home improvement store.

It is fairly easy to put the connectors onto the cables, it just takes some practice to get the feel. Don't rush it either. A bad connection is a horrible thing, I know from experience.

Good luck, let us know how it turned out.
