All government money to Elon Musk, consisting of discounted loans, grants, environmental tax credits, and subsidies equals $4.9 billion or about one percent of Elon Musk‘s net worth

Los Angeles entrepreneur Elon Musk has built a multibillion-dollar fortune running companies that make electric cars, sell solar panels and launch rockets into space.
And he’s built those companies with the help of billions in government subsidies.
Tesla Motors Inc., SolarCity Corp. and Space Exploration Technologies Corp., known as SpaceX, together have benefited from an estimated $4.9 billion in government support, according to data compiled by The Times. The figure underscores a common theme running through his emerging empire: a public-private financing model underpinning long-shot start-ups. https://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-hy-musk-subsidies-20150531-story.html

Makes you wonder how much he's gotten in govt "assist" since then, I've read figures in Barrons (Nov 2024) its now closer to $20 Billion https://www.barrons.com/articles/elon-musk-companies-money-federal-government-0683b7d9

And how long can he keep it up? Or is this a case of lose now at cheap rates, drive competition away then overcharge as the only game in town?
I'll engage in this line of discussion when SOMEONE tells me what SpaceX can launch a Kilogram for vs the competition. I already know the #'s and it's why I'm pushing back on the "Inside man" narrative about Musk angling for SpaceX contracts because that's they only way they can get them.

People are talking poop and they need to be called on it.

That's the thing with Musk's wealth. I don't *see* it. Like Tesla, don't see anyone buying/driving them around. SpaceX if he's producing as good a product yet costs less for sure. But don't see it in the market. I'm guessing some of his wealth is futures projection cause he holds the patents and technology etc.
You don't see Tesla's on the road? You don't see multiple reuse Falcon X Boosters?

Musk has quite vocally stated he doesn't understand where the valuation for Tesla comes from and that it's incredibly inflated.

I think Tesla may suffer the same fate as the Amiga. You come out 7 years ahead of everyone and then everyone catches up and surpasses you.

Are you comparing this to Musk's 'on paper' personal wealth or against the valuation of the companies he's produced?

That is a straw as no one here is claiming that "Musk angling for SpaceX contracts because that's they only way they [sic] can get them".

Trump was about to announce around one and half trillion dollars missing from the economy, planes started falling out of the sky so he delayed the announcement and no he’s withholding it. They found something very big.

A side note, USAID has been a front for the CIA to manipulate foreign countries through NGO’s. Since Obama it started giving to NGOs that donate to Democrat campaigns in the US and that ballooned under Biden.

This isn’t Republican vs Democrat, this is America vs Globalism. Conservatives are celebrating because we feel like we’ve won but once the accounting is done we may realize we’ve already lost. How ever this ends it gets worse before it gets worse. Trump may be the wrench getting dropped into the gears of the machine, as a conservative I along with many others have wanted this to happen but I don’t think any of us is prepared for what it will look like.

Everyone screaming about Trump or Musk doing this for money is completely blind to what’s happening.

But if he overcharges, any competitor(s) that can produce a similar project should be able to enter the fray- if legislation is enacted to eliminate competition, we have anti-trust laws to prevent it.

This, however, needs to be watched closely.

Check this out- maybe a decrease in foreign aid will make changes in parts of the world where the government leaders just take the money and keep or use it for their own interests.

But the Musk dude is head of DOGE, Congress Republicans are feckless and cowardly, while the Republican Supreme Court gave Trump broad immunity. One department/agency after another is rolling over.

One of the latest DOGE skulduggery is the following:

>>>Billionaire Elon Musk’s deputies have gained access to a sensitive Treasury Department system responsible for trillions of dollars in U.S. government payments after the administration ousted a top career official at the department, according to three people who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe government deliberations.

On Friday, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent approved access to the Treasury’s payments system for a team led by Tom Krause, a Silicon Valley executive working in concert with Musk’s “Department of Government Efficiency,” the people said.

David A. Lebryk, who served in nonpolitical roles at Treasury for several decades and had been the acting secretary before Bessent’s confirmation, had refused to turn over access to Musk’s surrogates, people familiar with the situation told The Washington Post. Trump officials placed Lebryk on administrative leave, and then he announced his retirement Friday in an email to colleagues.

Spokespeople for Treasury and DOGE declined to comment.

The sensitive systems, run by the Bureau of the Fiscal Service, control the flow of more than $6 trillion annually. Tens of millions of people across the country rely on the systems. They are responsible for paying Social Security and Medicare benefits, salaries for federal personnel, payments to government contractors and grant recipients, and tax refunds, among tens of thousands of other functions.

Typically, only a small group of career employees control the payment systems, and former officials have said it is extremely unusual for anyone connected to political appointees to access them.

Musk has sought to exert sweeping control over the inner workings of the U.S. government, installing longtime surrogates at several agencies, including the Office of Personnel Management, which essentially handles federal human resources, and the General Services Administration, which manages real estate. DOGE is now housed in a White House office formerly known as the U.S. Digital Service but now called the U.S. DOGE Service and has broad visibility into technology across the government.

The New York Times was first to report that Musk’s deputies had gained control of the systems. ...
