Which would you prefer?

Paradigm, Monitor, Klipsch or Polk Audio?

How do you like your ERAs?
My impression is that Paradigm, Monitor Audio, and Klipsch are possibly a little bit better than Polk Audio.:)

Exactly which models are you looking at?

Klipsch RF83 ($1,250)?
Monitor Audio GS20 ($1,200)?
Paradigm Studio 60 ($750)?

I don't own ERA speakers, I auditioned them. I just felt like posting my impressions of them. Click on the hyperlink in my sig if you want to know more.:)

Oh you are just asking for it.:D

I won't say anything because I am not a huge fan of Polk, but I know some people here will strongly disagree.

At least you chose your wording carefully. Keywords like "possibly" help your foundation for dispute. "See, I said 'possibly'.":D
That's right. I did say "possibly a little bit better", which could very well be due to slight subjectivity.

Why, I might just add that Polk Audio makes very fine speakers indeed.:D

Seth back to receiver question!

My kids are pushing me to get them a PS3 80gig. If PS3 does proper upscaling of old DVD movies to 1080p, do you think I should purchase the Onkyo 805 instead of 875? Since one of the reasons I picked 875 was the upscaling factor.

Is upscaling of PS3 better than 875, or is it the other way around, or same?

The scaling is likely to be better on the TX-SR875, but IMO, not enough to warrant spending a few hundred more to get it when the same technology will be readily available in TVs and HD movie players in the near future, possibly something better, at a lower price.

If I were in your position I would get the TX-SR805, but if you really feel that you need that slight advantage of the Reon scaler in the TX-SR875 instead of waiting for a few months to a year for a cheaper and more adapted version of scaling, by all means do what you feel works for you.:)

You are correct.

From $700.00 to $1,200. $500.00 is a lot money. Specially when I am getting the PS3, that already performs the same function.

Just know that the PS3 won't likely do it quite as well, but I wouldn't be to concerned. If you are anything like the rest of us you won't be able to watch many DVDs once you have gotten into Blu-ray.:D Of course that only applies to certain types of movies, who cares if Happy Gilmore is in SD, it won't make it any funnier being 1080p will it?;)

Out of curiosity,

what do you think will happen to the quality of the picture; if you play a dvd through PS3 and then pass it via HDMi to an Onkyo 875 to display it on a 1080p LCD.

You can't combine scaling of the PS3 and the TX-SR875, you would need to choose which to use as your scaling device. If you choose the PS3 you set the TX-SR875 to pass-thru, if you choose the TX-SR875 you shut the scalers of on the PS3, if you choose to let the TV do the scaling (which might be pretty good) then the PS3 and TX-SR875 scaling features are shut off and the TV will automatically scale.
