actually it was Greg's EMO you dissed, I'm quite happy with mine... and actually I'm not considering the new EMO pre/pro. My old roommate is buying my current RX-V1600 and I'm getting the RX-V1800, I figure it will offer just as much, if not more than the new EMO, and still be cheaper, plus I can have it much sooner.

You got any more info on this upcoming pre/pro... I haven't really heard anything about it.
No, I have not read anything new from Emotiva, Outlaw Audio, or NuForce regarding new Pre-pros with HDMI1.3/TrueHD/DTS-MA.

But if I had EMO amps, I would consider EMO pre-pros too.

I thought the EMO pre-pros costs about the same as the Yamaha 1800.

I just looked and they have dropped the price of their current higher end offerings to make room for the new stuff next year. And their upcoming pre/pro may cost about what a new RX-V1800 cost, but again, I can have the yammy right away, and I have been very impressed with it so far. But I can also get the yammy for less on ebay than anywhere else. I'm aware of the risk involved, but I'm willing to take that chance right now. I'm actually going to try and get it from the person I got my current one from to see if he can cut me a good deal again, since he's actually an authorized dealer and I will get a receipt that will keep my warranty valid.

I would consider the emo if it were out, but I'm very familliar with the yamaha's operation, and remote, and I like it very much and want to stay with it. Plus I would still have an amp section if something ever happened to my amp, or I just decided I don't want/need the amp anymore.

Is it a coincidence this thread is talking about EMO and gay now?

The Onkyo TX-SR875 Receiver destroyed my lcd tv. The top of the case above the hdmi output was hot enough to fry eggs on.

The Onkyo TX-SR875 Receiver burned out the hdmi inputs to my lcd tv as soon as I turned the power on. Onkyo technical support could not offer me a solution and hung-up on me when I asked them to pay for the damage to my lcd tv. I have not been able to get any programming source to work over the hdmi connection to my lcd tv since the Onkyo TX-SR875 Receiver damage it.

I have returned the Onkyo TX-SR875 Receiver to my retailer.

This is the first product manufactured by Onyko that I have purchased--- and it is most certainly the last!
- How true is that?

- Does it get that hot?

- Could the receiver burn the LCD TV's HDMI input through the HDMI cable? It can't be because of the heat could it?

Wow! Sounds like sci-fi. I've never heard of anything like that before.

Personally, I would not believe it.

How about separates for $1,000: 7.1 Preamp/processor + 7 Ch Amp (125w x 5 + 50w x 2) --->

http://www.emotiva.com/lmc1.html

http://www.onsale.com/shop/detail~dpno~7295840~discount~220.0000.aspx

With the 7.1 Analog Inputs, you could easily hook up the $800 Samsung BD-UP5000 Combo Blu-ray + HD DVD player & get TrueHD + DTS-MA.

You would hook up the HDMI from the Blu-ray/HD DVD combo player DIRECTLY to your TV for the best picture quality---eliminating the "middle man".

So that's a completely hardcore audiophile SEPARATE component system + blu-ray/HD DVD player for $1,800.

That leaves you $2,200 for speakers.

Wow - What a forum.

I appreciate all of your feedbacks.

I listened to Seth=L’s suggestions and went to our local stereo place here. They did a demo on "Definitive Technology", "Vienna Acoustics" and "Martin Logan". I know you're going to ask me what models, but unfortunately I wrote down and lost the models numbers.

They only had the Denon and Marantz receivers. Vienna Acoustic and Martin Logan were played from Denon AVR-3808CI and they sounded great. But Maritn Logan was on the large side. Definitive Technology was played from a lower model of Denon and I wasn't so impressed with the sound.

Unfortunately, I haven't found a really professional stereo outfit with a nice variety of stereos and speakers yet, so sound could be compared properly.

I will look at Onkyo models as suggested.

My goal is to get the best equipment available today. If I can't afford it, I don't have to have it all today. I could purchase them in bits and pieces. As I've mentioned I keep things for the long haul.

I would appreciate more speaker suggestions.

Thanks again for all you help.
You should consider acquiring speakers first. Do this...go out and listen to some Kef XQ5's. They're great (well that's subjective but they sound great to me!) and you can get them half off at $1500 versus paying $3000!

I would then look at perhaps buying seperates such as a pre/pro and power amp.

Best of luck to your search,

Al

You guessed right.

Any speaker recommendations?
Yep...you can bundle Kef's XQ series for $2500! Normal retail is about $5600. Included are the XQ5 front floorstander, XQ2C center channel and the XQ1 rears. The total price of $2499 includes shipping and taxes. This is one of the best deals in audio!

If you find somewher to demo them I would. I found them to be of A1 quality.

Best wishes to your search,

Any product can have issues, even expensive ones. Don't knock a brand or particular product just because one or two people have had an issue here and there. There are many happy Emotiva customers that haven't had issues with their gear, and I'll bet there are more satisfied customers than dissatisfied. Plus Emotiva has excellent customer service, and that means a lot to me, not every company is willing to stand behind thier products the way emotiva does.

And I'm one of them! Very happy indeed that I bought an Emotiva product.

Happy Listening,

Al

Anything 1/2 price certainly raises my attention!

So you have Emotiva pre-pros & amps?
Neither...I bought the DMR-1 receiver instead. However, the plan is to use the anticipated 40% off discount when their new pre/pros come to market. In reality, the DMR-1 is one fine sounding product!

Out,

Al

My 20 year old Sony receiver passed away and I'm in the market to purchase a new system. Which is a better choice Denon AVR-3808CI or Yamaha RX-Z9?

Generally speaking how would you compare Yamaha to Denon receivers?

:)

Don't say that, my Sony is about that old. . .

Anyhow, I knew someone with a Yamaha and I didn't care for it at all. It just didn't have any depth. The sound was very crisp, it just didn't have a lot of bass. It wasn't the speakers, they were tested on other receivers with plenty of depth. However, that was a long time ago. My father has a Denon and it sounds quite nice with movies, but I prefer my setup for music.

I would find what receiver from each brand would suite your needs and listen to both to see what you think.

Any one knows of any online stores that carry Paradigm, Monitor and Klipsch speakers?

I've decided to go with the Onkyo 875.

I have another question.

What should the following parameters be when choosing surround front speakers for the 875?
Overall Frequency Response?
ie.20Hz-27kHz
Nominal Impedance?
ie. 8 ohms
Recommended Amplifier Power?
ie. 20-300 w/channel
Efficiency?
ie. 89 dB
Inputs?
ie. Dual (bi-amp)5-way binding posts

FYI: the above are some specs for PolkAudio RTi A7.

Which would you prefer?

Paradigm, Monitor, Klipsch or Polk Audio?

How do you like your ERAs?

As you probably know, speaker preference is a very personal choice. The best speaker is the one that sounds the best to you. What sounds "bright" to someone, sounds "accurate" to another, and what sounds "muddy" to one person, sounds "warm" to another.

Having said that, I am a huge fan of Paradigm speakers. I have had Monitor 7s for over 10 years and have been very happy with the sound with my Yamaha receiver.
