Your right, it runs hot. I guess it is just worthless then.
From my experience, it will be. I just flat-out can't see paying that much coin for that unit. And I know, you will not be doing it either. So why help someone else blow money on something you would not blow your money on?
People can stick their reviews where the sun don't shine.:p
I do have some rules in life.
1) Toyota, or Nissan.
2) Honda, or Kawasaki.
3) Red Max, or Shindaiwa.
4) Red Wing, or Carolina.
5) MB Quart, or B&W.
6) Yamaha, or Denon.
7) One female, or two.:D

Sorry, but I have a serious problem with this statement. There is no way you can know if I would buy one of these or not. You can speak for yourself and from your own experiance, but don't ever speak for someone else because that is very rude IMO.

I am a college student, I don't have job at the moment. I can't afford to indulge into this new of gear. Rest assured, if I had the money (and as I am looking for work right now) I will be getting an Onkyo receiver from the 800 series or up if they continue to make gear like that for the price.

You can argue all you want that it can't power harder load speakers, but if you have nothing well founded to support your "opinion" then that is all it is going to be, your opinion. So what if it runs hot, Class A amps run hot, so we should just discard all those and get Class D right?, I think not.

You won't read the reviews, that's fine. However I seriously doubt that most any reviewer will fudge specifications for a receiver. Some Onkyo models get bad reviews and poor bench tests, then that same reviewer will get a different Onkyo and have nothing but good things to say about it and it performs on the bench.

Like I said, I know you will not be getting this receiver. That is fact, backed-up by your statement. I certainly didn't mean for it to offend you.

I am a grown man in the fifteenth year of my career, with a wife, and a child on the way. I know the value of a dollar. And, my dollars are too precious to blow on technology that may be out tomorrow. My receiver is about four years old, and it is out-of-date. I would hate to know I paid 2k for it.

So, I just wanted to stress my opinion of the receiver, and it's cost. Nothing was meant to belittle you. My statement was intended for the OP to help make an informed decision.

My recommendation was, and is, to get the best deal on a receiver with the connections/features needed, and add an amp, or two, or three. This way, when it's time to upgrade to new technology, the extra money for overrated power will not be wasted.

As a forum member, I have had several conversations with YOU. You mentioned you are a student, and unemployed. From my experience, this tells me YOU are not capable of purchasing this unit. And, I am pretty sure you already have a receiver, as you have been here for a while.

Like I said, none of my previous posts were meant to belittle you, but if you keep this up, you will begin to look like someone that is not capable of giving information.

In your best interest, I would let it rest, and let this thread get back on track.;)

I am still pretty certain the Onkyo TX-SR805 and up can power the Polk RTi or LSi series speakers to reasonable levels of output. There is no reason why not to buy one of these units, as they have the latest in connectivity and processing features. Will something come out that is better in the future with more features, yes, they always do.

It seems that you are suggesting that the OP get a less up to date receiver/processor with an amplifier. This limits the OP's ability to use the latest features. The seperate amplifier would no doubt be better, they always are, but there is no reason why the OP can't get the receiver with the features that fits them and simply upgrade by adding an amplifier IF NECESSARY. If it isn't necessary the OP doesn't need to fight with it.

I have mentioned, over and over, to choose the receiver with the connections and features needed. Nothing more, nothing less. A separate amp will be able to be used forever, and in most cases, you get 100% of the power you pay for.

While the receiver looks to be enough on paper, the room plays a huge part in this situation. I have an open beam room. I know what they do to power. They eat it up.

I just looked up the specifications for the RTi 12 speakers the OP was interested it. They are rated at 90 dB @ 1 watt/meter and 8 ohm rated. The LSis are certainly more taxing. The TX-NR905 should have no problem driving the RTi 12s to insane levels of output in even a large room.

Why did you just look them up? This thread has been going on for a week, or more. This proves, yet again, that you are recommending products without investigation, or experience. I would give it a rest.

Um excuse me, but I was recommending that the receiver be used with the LSis, which I still think it can handle. I decided to look into the RTis because of what you said about them gobbing up power.

It's a good thing you decided to look into the RTi's, because the OP's opening post to this thread certainly didn't mention them.

First time poster, long time viewer.
Anyway, I finally am able to afford a decent A/V system.
Here is what I plan on putting together. Anything I'm missing or mis-matching?

Samsung HL-T6189s DLP w/ LED Light Engine
Onkyo TX-NR905
Polk RTI-12
Polk CSi-5
Polk TCi-65 surrounds (bought already, with in wall brackets)
Three Outlaw 200W mono's for the fronts and center speakers
Outlaw LFM-1 Plus Sub
Toshiba A30 HD-DVD
X-box 360 (bought)
Not sure on the local cable vs a dish.

Of course I'm lost on the HDMI cables and the 1.3 format, 12-bit deep color, etc and what cables will carry this bitstream, etc.

Thanks in advance
I honestly don't think this is helping the OP any longer. I am certain that the OP has been able to come to a conclusion.

It says RTI 12 right below Onkyo TX-NR905. Good thing each post you make just digs you deeper into looking like the uninformed poster.
