Hey Everyone, hows it goin. I dont actually consider myself a newbie. Ive been playing with A/V stuff since I was a child, probably since like 10 or 11 years old. I would always get in trouble because my grandfather had some nice audio equipment for back then and they didnt want me playin with it. Now Im the one everyone calls when something goes wrong..go figure.
Well, now Im 21, got a nice job, and need to get my own audio equipment. I have some nice speakers already, custom made sort of. I took my dads old floor speakers, ripped the old subs out of them, replaced them with some pioneer subs, measured and added some wood where needed in order to make the box perfect for the sub. Its not a perfect fit, but they sound good. Next Im gonna replace the tweeters and the crossovers in the speakers and be set. But for now, I need a new receiver. The one I have, one that was passed down, is not exactly good for now. It has no digital audio, no HDMI, no nothing, just audio in for a cd player. It sounds good, dont get me wrong, but I need the formentioned things.
Im kinda draggin on for an introduction, but basically, am just wondering what everyone would recommened as far a nice 7.1 receiver goes. Doesnt have to have the HDMI, but digital audio input would be nice.

Thanks,
Jacob

Jacob, welcome to the forum! Good to have you around.

What's your budget? There are a lot of good 7.1 receivers out there, ranging from around $250 and up. Many good brands, many good models. A number of people here really like the new Onkyo 805 that is around $900.

You should start a thread, and post some pictures of this project. :D

900 is a little outta my price range, but I can probably go up to about 500. I want some good sound quality, but it doesnt have to be the best.
Thanks for the welcome.

I will, right now everythings sitting in the attic, waiting to get a new reciever, and the tweeters and crossovers before I go any further, but pictures will not be a problem.

I'm a fan of Onkyo in general, and I like their offerings this year better than other brands. In your price range, I'd suggest either the Onkyo 505 (around $250) or the 605 (around $450).

I have a Pioneer VSX-1015 that cost me about $450 a couple of years ago, and I'm happy with it. I believe that the VSX-1017 is the new version. I don't like the looks of the new one as much, but the audio should be better than mine. Those should also be around the $450 mark.
