Look, I have been throwing this dvd out there for over three years now. These guys are absolutely awesome. If you are a musician, you will get it. If you are not, you still may. This is three of the most talented people in rock today. This dvd has superb sound quality. The people in the crowd got their moneys worth, and then some. If you are a rock fan, you will get yours.

I have done my part. It would be a shame to deprive yourself, and your system, of this dvd.

Source: Les Claypool's mom

Les used to have a primus grill. (No doubt still does) But when it comes to fish they don't get no fresher than cookin' them bastards right up on the shore. One day he ran out of gas about one minute into cooking a fish, and he had just said "now you're cookin with Primus, you Bastard" His buddy Gnomer never let him live it down, so it stuck like glue, so it goes.

Yeah, someone had told me that story a long time ago, but I wasn't sure if it was true. Thanks J.

Another story that I had heard was that he got the name from an early 70s tv show called Primus.

When I grow up, I want to be, one of the harvesters of the sea. I think before my days are done, I want to be a fisherman.

I'm a big fan of Primus, and Les Claypool's bass playing. Pork Soda is still one of my favorite albums. I remember a few years back hearing them do a cover of Pink Floyd's "Animals" that was absolutely awesome, not sure where it came from, I think it was a concert album.

Saw em Live in 1994 opening for Rush on the Counterparts Tour. They were horrible. This is one band that I will never understand and I drummed for 14 years.

I haven't seen them play in years. I gotta say they used to put on an amazing show. Incredible stage presence, tremendous musicianship, and a very original sound.

For those who care, they used to play local shows under several pseudonyms with each having a different tempo and persona. My personal favorite was "Bob meat and the Yellow Sock", they played all their songs to in a beatnik fashion.

I am confused. Why is the thread called "Primus sucks" when, in fact, the OP's comments about them are favorable?:confused:
FWIW I like them well enough, but don't count them among my favorites. I actually prefer Les Claypool's solo work, as well as his collaborations with other artists (my favorite is Corporal Claypool's Big Bucket of Bernie Brains.)

"Primus Sucks" was their trademark tagline or whatever. They had bumper stickers, T-shirts and so on.

They (the band and Claypool) are actuall trying to rid themselves of that moniker. They admit it is "getting old".

I love both bands for thier musicianship but I can only listen to them every so often.
When I did see Rush it was around 97 or so at the Fleet Center in Boston. Must have been the Roll the Bones tour (I think) but they put on an amazing show.

Maybe you should take a hint, people don't want to listen to Primus.

How can you not enjoy a band with an album name like Pork Soda?!
Watch me.

Seems accurate to me.
