I'll let you dig into that a little more.
I probably follow this topic more than the average person. I haven't come across this "deal" before. So, if you can't provide a reputable link, I'm going to assume there was no deal.
I'm not prepared to see another world war break out and have countless millions die for a politician's bidding be it the US or Russia. Yes I don't like Putin, the way he had his political opposition killed and thus rig whatever resembled an election.
So, we let Russia have whatever they want, or it'll be WW3? Nah, not buying it. And, you don't like Putin because of what he did to his own political opposition!? If that was his biggest sin, we could happily ignore Russia.
I won't even get into things like what he did to Chechnya, or assassinations and sabotage in western countries.
Massacres and Summary Executions
- The Bucha Massacre: Following the withdrawal of Russian forces from the Kyiv suburb of Bucha in March 2022, hundreds of civilian bodies were discovered. Many were found executed at close range in the streets or buried in mass graves, some with their hands bound behind their backs and blindfolded. [1, 2, 3]
- Execution of Prisoners of War (POWs): Russian forces have repeatedly carried out summary executions of captured Ukrainian soldiers. High-profile incidents, such as the filmed execution of soldier Oleksandr Matsiyevsky, match findings from the UN confirming the systemic execution, torture, and castration of Ukrainian POWs. [1, 2]
Deliberate Targeting of Civilians and Infrastructure
- Bombing of Shelters and Hospitals: Russian forces have deliberately bombed clearly identified civilian facilities. Notable early examples include the March 2022 airstrike on the Mariupol Drama Theater—which was clearly marked with the word "children" ("дети") and served as a civilian bomb shelter—and the destruction of the Mariupol maternity hospital. [1, 2]
- Targeted Child Casualties: Continued strikes on residential buildings, schools, and playgrounds have resulted in the deaths of at least 791 children and the injury of thousands more. There have also been instances of Russian FPV drones deliberately targeting individual children and families in open yards. [1, 2]
- Weaponizing Civil Infrastructure: Russia has launched sustained, nationwide campaigns targeting Ukraine's energy grid, water supplies, and thermal plants. The UN assesses these actions as deliberate attempts to make civilian life unsustainable, which constitutes a war crime. [1, 2]
- Double-Tap Strikes on First Responders: UN investigators have documented instances of coordinated drone and missile strikes targeting first responders, fire brigades, and ambulances attempting to rescue victims of initial strikes. [1, 2]
Crimes Against Humanity in Occupied Territories
- Forcible Deportations and "Filtration": The UN Commission of Inquiry formally designated Russia's state-coordinated deportation and forced transfer of Ukrainian populations as crimes against humanity. Hundreds of thousands of civilians, including thousands of unaccompanied children, have been subjected to abusive security screenings known as "filtration camps" before being forcibly relocated deep into Russian territory. [1, 2, 3, 4]
- Systemic Torture Networks: In liberated areas like Izium, Kherson, and Lyman, investigators uncovered numerous "torture chambers". Civilian detainees, municipal workers, and anyone showing pro-Ukrainian identity have been subjected to severe beatings, electric shocks, psychological abuse, and starvation. [1, 2, 3, 4]
- Sexual Violence: International organizations have verified numerous accounts of rape and sexual assault committed by Russian soldiers against Ukrainian women, men, and children as a method of psychological warfare and subjugation. [1, 2, 3]
This is not to say that Ukrainian forces have been totally innocent. But, any sins on their part absolutely pale in comparison with the crimes of the invaders. It is glaringly obvious why there is an ICC warrant for Putin's arrest, while the warrant for Zelenskyy's arrest was issued only by Russia.
I'm also very staunchly opposed to the bullshit in the middle east STARTED by Trump and Israel. Trump is making a monetary killing from this war and the US is ok with this?
You ask me if I'm "ok with this"? If you interpret anything I've stated in relation to the Middle East as being supportive of US and Israel, you've completely lost the plot.
Israel is committing genecide and ethnic cleansing and you toss out the woke term every time I mention. I can't believe you keep denying what is so painfully obvious. Before criticizing others, look in the mirror.
The main difference between you and I on the issue of genocide is that, while Israel has absolutely committed war crimes in Gaza, I don't think they rise to the level of genocide. The level of wanton destruction, disregard for civilian casualties, targeting of emergency services personnel...this all calls for jail time for those involved, including most of the Israeli government cabinet. The Holocaust, Rwanda and the Killing Fields of Cambodia - those were genocides. Gaza is not...not yet, at least.*
I find it odd that you're willing to sacrifice Ukraine for the sake of preventing wider conflict, but not Gaza. Are you aware that Israel buys a great deal of raw material from Russia, including grain stolen from Ukraine?
The word "woke" has been rendered meaningless, and you have
never seen me use it before.
*Recent Israeli suggestions of expelling the Gazan populace are absolutely unacceptable.
