I believe Russia’s gains in Ukraine in 2025 were about 0.8% of Ukrainian territory. I rather doubt that Putin could make much progress in a wider war with NATO even if the U.S. stays out of it.

Having said that, Putin seems to be motivated by some sort of weird dream of Russian greatness based on land grabs that has little to do with reality.
I believe Putin's threats are like a gambler trying to bluff his opponents into thinking he has a stronger hand than he actually holds.

An interview with my nephew Peter Apps has just gone live on YouTube. He is a senior Reuter correspondent and also a serving British army officer despite being a high quadriplegic. His last book was a history of NATO: - "Deterring Armageddon". His latest book: "The Next World War," will be published January 29.

Venezuela is in the bag, when are Canada and Greenland slated for?
There is no way Trump will try to attack our Country. Great Britain, France and other NATO countries would protect us should he try to do so.

I sure hope you're right. This guy is nuts and evil, tho.
After WWII, there was a signed agreement which I did view a copy of, when I started working at one of the largest Canadian life insurance companies in the early 1960's. That paper clearly stated that in the event of a future military attack on our Country, the United States of America would defend us. I just don't believe that this agreement was annulled at any time.

Drumphy doesn't often bother with prior agreements.

While there are more than a few people in MAGA-land who would be onboard with invading Canada and/or Greenland, I really don't think it will happen. While the Trump administration is steadily sabotaging its relationship with the rest of the liberal democratic world, such drastic action would be the last straw. He would be declaring war against two NATO allies - thus, war against all of NATO. Russia would then invade the Baltic countries, China would invade Taiwan. Trump may be incapable of thinking beyond his next BM, but I have to believe there are sufficient adults in the DoD to strangle that idea in its crib.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this Venezuela op.

This Venezuela thing, will be most interesting in who Congress supports or not. Will we have only a few speaking out, to represent the few/mass? I think after a month, this incident will blow over, with China and Nato.

While agree 100% I don't think even he is daft enough to invade Canada. But then if he keeps OD'ing on aspirin .....
So like I just listened to him saying, more likely Colombia and Cuba are ripe? Or is it Mexico? Once all that done and no one does anything, don't put Canada beyond these asshole republicans.

I'm starting to think that this action had nothing to do with the allegations of drug running against Maduro. First of all, Trump just pardoned the former Honduran president for the same offenses. Second, it cuts China off at the knees, as they were investing heavily in Venezuela, financially and diplomatically. And third, well, there's all that oil.

Hopefully we'll never see this happen. He might have opponents and resistance in the US also.

Do you really think he cares anything about an agreement that he does not like? He would declare it null and void.
