Agree.
Still trying to get an audition at a stockist.
Powered speakers could do. However, I'm seeking to retain access to Pandora, Spotify and other music streaming services.
I have powered (JBL LSR305) speakers and passive speakers that I use for Pandora and Spotify. The powered speakers are at work. I have a budget (Aiyima) Bluetooth capable preamp for those, and the relatively inexpensive Fosi BT30D Pro amp for the passives (I have quite a few pairs due to an obsession with building diy kit speakers) which also does Bluetooth. It's really the only reason I carry or, find use for the additional features of a cell phone.
Once I got used to, and optimized the phone for streaming music, it kind of made other, more dedicated streaming products rather redundant. While many in the audiophile world may turn their snoots up at Bluetooth, good speakers still manage to overshadow whatever sound quality shortfalls it may have, IMO.
During hurricane Milton, we had no electricity or internet but still had cell service. All we had was a JBL Flip 6 portable speaker and it sure made life better to have music. I later had use of a portable Honda inverter generator to run the fridge, a lamp, and to recharge phones and the JBL speaker. All the 3 of us could do here was pass time sitting at the dining table around the only light, bs'ng and listening to music.
Currently, I have a pair of Paul Carmody design "Speedsters" as my bedroom speakers paired up with the Fosi amp and it's just too easy to control everything from the phone without getting up, and to my ears, sounds fantastic. It's also pretty handy to have it automatically connect to my truck's audio system, picking up where I last left off, and again to the system I have at work all rather seamlessly.
I would buy a dedicated streamer like the Wiim, just for the heck of it, but I am not finding any need for it since I have to keep and maintain a cell phone anyway. Otherwise, my PC based main home system does everything else I need when I want to play/stream music more seriously, play games or watch movies.
