Having moved house to a small flat, I'm looking for a competent system that will not draw attention to itself.

It does not require a receiver or other electronics, allowing for lower energy consumption.

Any thoughts will be appreciated.

Never heard this one personally but with all in one units we tend hear more complaints. I'd go with a passive sound bar and an AVR personally, YMMV.

I thought that looked very nice for a no fuss, no muss little system that you can just play in the background with no worries.

Until I saw the price.
1500 bucks is ridiculous for that piece.
500 would justify it.

I would not criticize the JBL unit on price alone. The Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar | Plus for example is also $1500 and is recognized on many sites as being one of the better sound bars out there. Def Tech makes one for $2400. I bet the JBL sounds much better than your typical $350 sound bar. These types of units rarely get reviewed though so measurements are difficult to find, let alone an honest review.

I wouldn't worry about power consumption particularly between this and a receiver. It does require other electronics as it has no source of its own. I hadn't seen this unit before, shame it doesn't come with a sub (but does seem to have some sort of auto-sensing hpf if one is used). Seems overpriced in any case for what essentially is a soundbar. I like the 70s revisit via the quadrex grill.

Not really a soundbar but actually one of those all in one, supposed high end music boxes that rely on retro styling to justify the price.

While more and more of these devices offer ARC and sub pre outs, they are PCM 2.0 only affairs and cannot be expanded for more channels.

If a fan of JBL, a simple 2.1 system that can be expanded could be had for about the same money using a JBL MA310, JBL 250B speakers and a JBL Stage 200P subwoofer. The speakers can be positioned separately and optimally in the room. This cannot be done with all in one units.

Having internal amplification justifies the pricing. It will save me a receiver purchase.
It does appear to be a well built piece of kit. Trying to set up an audition.

Pricing may be negotiable at a local electronics retailer.

I apologise for not being more clear.

When I said no other electronics, I meant there is no need for a receive/avr.

The sub can be added later if the need arises. The walls here are rather thin.

Well a receiver does often have a built in source like radio/internet altho a closer look at the spec I see the L75 has built in chromecast/airplay/bt. It does have hdmi and some alternate inputs as well (even for a tt) and a remote so somewhat can act as a receiver. I'd still like better speakers as well as the sub. I was thinking something along the lines of a pair of JBL LSR308s (and the S310 sub option).

Absolutely agree with receivers having built ins Attempting to downsize/de clutter. That is why this piece of kit is intriguing to me. It ticks all the boxes in one unit.

That's actually quite nice and probably sounds better than it ought to. I would wonder if it might go on sale for around half the price like so many other JBL products do, which would seem like a more fitting price for that.
